Love the quote: "You can't spin the car". Yea, right.

i don't know about the suspension failure. Some turns before the accident, the guy was just whipping the car into the turn. Seems like he just upset the balance and couldn't recover the last one. He almost lost it a few moments back also. I think he was driving too hard because he didn't want the Mazda to pass him. IMO.

A better driver in a slower car most of the time gets the win

Agreed. I had a feeling 15 seconds before the crash that something bad was going to happen. It was getting too competitive, and there was way too much adrenalin flowing inside that Elise.
We learn something else from this video - When you're driving hard, you do not notice a fly on your arm until you slow down. Watch the last few seconds of the video carefully, especially the area between the center vent and the passenger airbag as he brushes his arm. If I could be a fly on the wall, I would probably hang out at the track too.

After getting home and watching the video of the crash again. I can't stop feeling bad for the driver.I know myself and if I was in the car driving and that MX5 was on my ass like that I'm sorry to say I would be likely to take it over the top and eat the wall.

I agree. It almost looks like he was driving in his rear view when he lost it or he just wasn't paying attention to the track. Being humble is the first thing you need to learn on the track. A lot of people don't understand that the driver makes all the difference in who wins and looses. Just because your car puts down faster numbers when driven by professionals, doesn't meen you have anything to prove either. We all start somewhere.

Does anyone still have this video around? I'm a big fan of that track, but the link no longer appears to work. I'd love to see the Elise on that track, since I'll be driving it myself in Lisa pretty soon.
Thanks!

Ahhhh.....Pride rears its ugly head. I can understand not wanting to let the Mazda by....BUT... if a slower car catches me, I assume the difference is driving skill. I let the car go by, try to follow them and learn something.

The way the Mazda driver cleans his arm off after the crash is great. It's almost like he's saying..."done...next". I agree...that Elise was in trouble long before the crash. He started driving way out his comfort zone.

I have it, give me some time to upload it.

That miata driver was not exactly the High Priest of Smooth Driving, either. He seems pretty busy behind the wheel, and catches more than one tail-out moment.
The elise was trying to brake too deep into the turns, was getting the rear light and squirrelly right before diving in. This car will trail brake well, but it needs to be done with a lighter hand.

Not really an Elise video per se, but there's a comment at the end about a Lotus in the competition. Interesting video including M5's, Ford GT, AMV8 and more.
