Post Your Favorite Simple Sandwich Recipes

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
For those of us who works and packs their lunch, lets share a few simple sandwich recipes. I can't be one of those guys who makes the same sandwich day by day. I make a typical sandwich one day, make tuna another day, etc. However, I'd like to add more to my rotation.

1. TYPICAL SANDWICH
Bread - Meat - Cheese - Mayo/Mustard - Bread
This is probably the most common combination. It's what I see most co-workers bring, and what I find to be the most boring. I never make this anymore.

2. TYPICAL SANDWICH W/ VEGGIES
Bread - Meat - Lettuce - Tomato - Cheese - Mayo/Mustard - Bread
Same as Number 1, but with lettuce and tomatoes added. Normally made by mom, wife, or a guy who actually cares a little more about his sandwich.

3. TYPICAL TUNA SANDWICH
Bread - Tuna - Cheese (Optional for Tuna Melt) - Bread
The typical tuna sandwich. The tuna is mixed with chopped celery, onions, and may, and sometimes salt and pepper to taste.

4. TYPICAL PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICH
Breat- Peanut Butter - Jam (Optional) - Bread
This is a favorite among many.

GOING INTO THE UNIQUE ONES I LOVE TO MAKE

1. TYPICAL PLUS CRUSHED PEPPERS
Bread - Meat - Cheese - Mayo - Crushed Red Peppers - Bread
Yes, take the typical sandwich you make, and add the crushed red peppers that you use on pizza to your sandwich. It adds a nice spice to it.

2. COTTO SALAMI PLUS EGG
Bread - Cotto Salami - Egg - Light Ketchup - Black Pepper - Bread
When making your sandwich in the morning, if the meat you use is cotto salmi, I find that a fried egg goes well with it. Make sure you pat dry your fried egg with a paper towel or else your sandwich will be soggy by lunch time. Also, I tend to fry it to the point where the yolk is almost hard so that it doesn't drip when I bite into it at work.

3. "THAI" TUNA SANDWICH PLUS SPICE
Bread - Tuna - Bread
The tuna in Thai Tune Salad is bascially tuna, red onion, lime, thai chilli peppers, and fish sauce. Most of you usually have onions and limes anyways. Go purchase a small bottle of fish sauce and some thai chilli peppers (you can use it also for your favorite soup). Mix all ingrediants together to taste, and it makes a nice tangy tuna sandwich.

4. TURKEY CHIPOTLE SANDWICH
Bread - Mayo - Cheese - Tomato - Turkey - Cheese - Chipotle Mustard - Bread
I usually use provolone cheese for this one.

ANYTHING BELOW THIS I WILL BE TRYING OUT AND POSSIBLY ADDING TO MY ROTATION

Sautee some onions until they just start to get translucent, then add the meat, which will cook in seconds because it's so thin.
The Sauce: Mix ketchup, mayo, salt and pepper to taste.
The Sandwich: Spread both sides of a fresh hard roll with the sauce, then add the sautéed meat/onion, and top with a couple of slices of Swiss cheese.
This sandwich is good both hot or cold.

Boar's head garlic bologna. Lavash bread, fresh parsley, horseradish. Yum. One of my perverse pleasures in life, along with vegemite.

I saw a headline somewhere that Vegemite wasn't legal to import any longer due to it containing some ingredient. Was there anything to that? EDIT: According to this there is an issue with the folate in it and while they aren't stopping travellers from bringing it in, Kraft has stopped importing it until things get resolved.

CP, that Thai tuna sounds good. I'm going to have to try that, assuming "fish sauce" isn't as gross as it sounds. I'm not much of a sandwich guy, so I have nothing to add recipe-wise.

crusty italian bread, pesto, spinach, fresh mozzarella and sliced vine ripened tomato with a bit of fresh ground pepper and sea salt to taste.

1. Rub half of pita pocket with olive oiled hands
2. fill with your best tuna (in oil, not water) salad, favorite cheese, tomatoes and sprouts

Fish sauce is optional.

Seriously though, anytime I get ripe tomatoes, I dry them in the oven with garlic , salt and lots of pepper until about 1/2 the moisture is gone. Place on crusty bread with basil. Mmmm.

Hmm, still on sale in World Market.

You know, one thing that sounds bleh, but is simple, and is actually really good...

Make toast. Lightly butter it if you want.
Make ramen. Whatever flavor you want.
Drain the water once you've seasoned it.
Put ramen on toast.

I know, it's weird, but good.

Bread - Salami - Provolone Cheese - Fried Italian peppers - Bread
A:
Your favorite bread, (Multi-graim Tuscany is my favorite) generous amount of butter, moderate amount of Jiffy creamy peanut butter, generous amount of yellow mustard.

My wife likes to add a slice of American or sharp cheese. She's never had her lunch taken at school, either!

My fav sammiches:

Little Pleasures

Hard salami
Pepperoni
Tomato
Living butter lettuce
Swiss cheese
Olive oil

Crusty-type bread, like the Cuban's do it.

Prepare some good olive oil by adding some dried, hand-rubbed oregano, kinda like a dressing. shake shake shake...
Brush the results onto the tender side of crusty bread. Soaks into bread.
Add the rest of the ingredients between.

-.-.-

Meatloaf sammich
add whole canned green chillies (open them flat) and pepperjack cheese
wave to heat/melt

hearty whole grain bakery bread. The kind with sunflower seeds, etc..
piles of thinly sliced red radishes
cloud of sprouts
mayo on both bread slices to corral sprouts and radishes.

That was my grandma's favorite sandwich.

The funny thing is that no one in Cuba has ever heard of eaten a "Cuban Sandwich". Apparently it's a relic from pre-revolution times, since no one can afford the ingredients any more. They actually don't really do sandwiches in general.

Is this for real, or are you kidding? Peanut butter and mustard?
