A&Q about Lotus
Q:
Do you actually use tint for the smoke effect? Or actually smoke it?
What's the pro/con of tint vs smoke it?
Thanks.

Guilty. Love the way it looks - no effective loss as far as I can tell, although it was a month since I drove it without and I do have HID's installed. I need to find out from Specialty Car Craft what percentage tint they used.

Just thinking about the 'stealth' paint of your car, Alan. Do you still get tickets for speeding?

Haven't yet! Anyone with a radar gun care to do a little testing? Doubt it does anything, but it would be fun to see.

Yeah, it looks nice, but my friend said that smoke the headlight looks better than the actual tinting. What is the process to smoke the headlight? is the process reversible? With tinting, it's reversible as it's just sticker / tint.
Alan, can you find out from SCC about the percentage of the tint? I love the way it looks but dont want the tint in any way to jeopordize the headlight output.
Thanks.

I have mine smoked and with no HID's there is a fair amount of light lost. I can show you on the next Sunday drive.

jeph, so it's smoke, not tint like Serebo1? You didn't show up in today's drive, btw.

Not sure what the difference is between smoking and tinting the headlights. I'm pretty sure the paint they used for the tint can be removed, but I'll doublecheck. I will find out the percentage of tint used, as well as the paint. I too was concerned about loss of output, but so far no problems.

Looks great, but does cut the lightput at least 50%, i wouldn't install it unless you were running at least a 35watt HID kit.

Wow, that looks great. Hard to tell if it's just lighting/angle, but it looks like you're using a heavier tint than I am. Any idea on the percentage?

Imolas54, can you post pic of your car w/ HID at night?

Hate to sound like a nerd, but there was a recent Mythbusters where they took a model car and did lots of things to it, including, IIRC, paint it flat black. They had a radar gun and were able to pick it up everytime. I felt a little depressed after that episode, LOL.

Yeah, I think I remember that as well. Wonder if it depends on the texture of the "flat" paint at all? Still love to test it.

One of my biggest sellers is tinted headlights, foglights and taillights. I usually offer up my services to the various forums I visit but never really noticed a demand here.
For proper adhesion here is the process we follow.
Scuff the lights,
Spray the lights to the desired tint using a Dupont paint(a medium taillight is usually three coats, headlights are one to two coats).
Clear coat the lights,
Bake them in the booth.
This process will yield a paint quality better than the factory paint on your car.
Here are a few of my cars that I have done

can't now, i removed the tint film on the side of the highway last week

I have tint film.

I have the darkest Lamin-X film on my headlights...have stock bulks. Funny how by aiming the light a bit lower I can get an exceptional amount of light by using the high beams. Never been flashed for brights and lights up just fine!
A:
Alan, have you asked SCC about the tint ?

Argh! So busy today that I didn't have time. Don't take my posts throughout the day as an indication I have nothing to do; they happened in the midst of two story meetings and a casting discussion. And you wonder what's wrong with movies these days. I'll do my best to check tomorrow, but you can also call SCC and talk to Steve - 310 838-5551.
