Yes, this is the technician at Lotus who heats the glue to adhesion temperature from his bottom. Quite a site, I hear. Gives a whole new meaning to a bonded ch-ass-is.

Thanks for the help guys! WTF is wrong with 1/2 of you? OK, I think I fit into that half sometimes too!
But seriously, there are some beautiful days around here in the winter and the freakin' road crews have put 400,000 tons of salt on the roads, but it's nice out. Even top down weather. But what's the worry about the salt? Am I worrying about nothing or is it a potentially big deal?
A:
Everyone freaked out about the salt should just move to NC! Oh wait, then we'll be even more overrun with transplanted yankees than we are now. Never mind, just move along, nothing to see here...
Btw, hit 80 today and drove all over the place. There's an old saying, if you don't like the weather in NC, wait a day. Definitely applies fall, winter, and spring. You never know what you're gonna get....Summer, well, HOT!
I do feel for my sodium chloride drenched brethren...and sisteren (did I just invent a word?).

Hey! I resemble that remark!

I trust you all carefully verified the part number of the glue protection kit which was posted in the informative message above...

Yes. If it wasn't obvious enough, that should have given it away.

In Michigan they use 400,000 pounds per 1/2 mile / per storm !!! I drive mine till the first salt flies, then park it for the winter till the first few heavy rains in the spring ( washes all the salt away ).

so lift off engine cover
look for orange glue...
but either way

They use sand in TX, not salt.
Doesn't matter much anyway - first sign of ice/snow and the whole state shuts down until it thaws.

i thought it was a mixture of sand and salt... never just salt... hmmmm
gotta do some googling

Here in Northern Virginia, they don't wait for the actual snow fall. If the weather report even hints that there might be snow, every parking lot gets covered with about an inch of salt, and the state gets it's trucks loaded and reved up. It usually takes a couple of spring rain storms to get the roads cleared off. The parking lots usually take a couple more storms until they are no longer white.

what about driving around and parking in coastal areas? I work right near the beach should I worry if I drive the car there 5 times every 2 weeks?
BTW, every elise/exige i've seen has orange glue - well more like a red-orange, i believe.

Does anyone know the aluminium alloy used in the chassis? In my own work (biomedical engineering) I have had anodized aluminium testing apparati suffer severe pitting corrosion after a few days of exposure to "physiological" salt solutions in the range of 0.9% NaCl.
Searching around a bit on the net, there is no definitive answer on the susceptibility of various alu-alloys to pitting corrosion.

Just say no...
Last spring the local Saab/Volvo dealer had an Elise that not only was driven in Boston over the winter, apparently it was also parked outside without a cover. The hose fittings, radiator, suspension bits, and a lot more looked horriffic. The tub was stained and the body chipped everywhere. The were asking $42k but after two months put it on sale for $37k and it sold for $35.5. It was a 2/05 build with 4000 miles.

That's because that's the color of the "glue" used to manufacture the chassis.
For the record, the whole post about the different colors of the "glue" and/or the "glue" changing colors is a Hoax - a joke.
Please ignore it after laughing at it.

Thanks, Tim. For a minute there I was concerned that there might be something wrong with the blue colored glue holding my chassis together.
