A&Q about Lotus
Q:
Hey everyone. My name is Nate, I'm one of those dudes from spyderchat.com. I have been seriously considering trading in my spyder and going for an elise. Unfortunately I live in Rochester (or as I like to call it Crotch-ester) NY and there arent a whole lot of Lotus dealers around here, if you can believe that. I'm curious as to how much an average payment is... I realize how difficult (and annoying) this question probably is to anwser because of all the factors that could influence a car payment. But if it helps, I'm looking for something slightly used (04-05ish) to reduce the cost. But if it's not too personal, I would like to get an idea of what people are paying for these. And yes, I realize how much of a stupid "noob" question this is, but I would really appreciate any input. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. This is a tough question to answer as there are too many variables. Your best bet is figuring out how much you can afford to put as a down payment. Then when you see a price you car easily guess what you have to borrow and your payments from that. BTW there are no used 04s, first model year for US was 05.
A:
Yeah, you can get an 8-year loan these days and cut it down pretty good. Good luck!
A:
you won't find an 04 any time soon

Check ebay completed listings. I would say upper 30's for now. South of that and it probably has or had issues.
A:
awesome, thanks for all the positive feedback/advice so far. I know basically nothing about the elise (which should be obvious after the '04 comment), but I am here to learn. I would have been crucified for asking something like that on spyderchat so I really appreciate the help.

Check out this video
This is the history and develpment of the car. This is called the S1 version. We have the later S2 body style with a Toyota power plant. This was change for emission reasons. The chassis and many of the components are the same. We do not have the special brakes mentioned in the video.
enjoy

test drive it.....period.....afterwards if it for you, you'll learn every single bit of info out there; if not then you'll walk away.

In Rochester, I'd put some money aside for a POS to drive in the winter. An Elise is not exactly the kind of ride for upstate winters.

Good point.
You should be able to find a used 05 for mid to high 30s. Maybe even less if you are looking regionally since it is winter. Good luck and welcome to ET.

I have a POS accord that I drive in the winter... I don't every plan on driving the spyder on the road, much less an elise.

Very nice. Thats not a bad price at all, but I think I'm gonna hold out for a yeller!

yeah it's a stupid question, the payment depends on how much u r borrowing $200 per every $10,000 you borrow on a 5 year loan is a good estimate
