A&Q about Lotus
Q:
Question::::::
I did a search for a thread like this and returned no luck, but I'm sure someone has made a thread like this.
Basically: how many people on here have either had or still have an MR2 and an Elise. Iv'e seen quite a few on here who do and we all know the reason. Same layout: Mid-engine, two seater, toyota engine (lol), small etc....
Anyways just curious as to see how many people still have or did have an MR2 at one point. I'll start:
Dad has a 1985 mint condition, blue MR2 and a nightfall blue 05' Elise. (MR2 is gonna be mine)
A:
had an mr2 spyder... was my first mid-engined car. loved it.

My daily driver.

Driven, tracked, and autocrossed just about every version, including Alex's car above me there. I drove his at the LVMS outside track.
I started with an 1985 NA MR2 (borrowed). Bought a 1991 NA MR2 for autocross. Borrowed a 1989 SC and 1994 Turbo. Been in a few various flavors of NA and turbo MKIIS over the years. Ran three different MR2 Spyders from 2000 until 2003.
A:
i had a 91 mr2 turbo with a trd widebody and loved everything about the car!
A:
i got 2002 mr-2 spyder yellow & 2005 elise mag blue

I had a 1986 Mk1 MR2 NA for 3 years that was sold to buy the Japanese import Supercharged Mk1 MR2. I added bigger brakes, Koni adjustable suspension and Blitz filter to that and kept it for four years. Great cars. Rumour has it that Lotus were responsible for the handling setup on the AW11.
Sold the MR2 SC two years ago for my 111R.
A:
I had a 1988 supercharged MR2 until I traded it in 1994 for a 911 (needed a little back seat for a new addition to the family)
A:
The SC car I had was a tin top - no T-bar or sunroof. This was a massive improvement. I sold my car with 122,000 miles on the engine and it felt as tight as a drum.
I had the choice of an Elise 111S with the Rover K Series engine or the 111R with the Toyota Celica engine. I kinda knew which one my head wanted before I drove them both but the K series sounded like a washing machine full of bolts! The 2nd cam action on the 111R did help with my 'heart' decision a little
A:
I had a black MR2 Spyder, the most modified one in the US and now a yellow Lotus Exige.
Cheers!

Does admiring each generation/version of MR2 count? I never did purchase one and once I started hearing that the Elise would arrive in the States and with a Toyota powerplant...it was like having your cake and eating it too!
A:
Here's a recent poll which will probably be of some interest to you. There are at least 42 former/current MR2 owners here. The MR2 is one of the more commonly owned vehicles among Elise/Exige enthusiasts.
A:
Had a 91 DD Turbo. Got an 05 SY Elise now

i decided to keep the spyder and sell the lotus. the spyder has been bullet proof. i havent put a dime into it in over 2 years of driving it. its the poor mans lotus, or maybe the other way around, as the lotus makes you poorer, and the spyder keeps your wallet fat .

I can't help but think that mr2s look like huge rip-offs of the porsche boxster.
Was the mr2 out first?
A:
Don't know.
I had a 2002 MR2 Spyder before my Elise.

I don't have an Elise... at least not yet. I had the first generation MR2 the first year it came out and it was a tremendous little car... a lot of fun for the money and bulletproof. It was still in excellent condition except normal fading etc after 7 years and over 90K miles. I had a couple of other cars (Miata was one of them) and a motorcycle before realizing that only another midengined car would do it for me, so I got an '03 MR2 Spyder. I've put about $15K into it and it is just amazing now, but feels heavy compared to an Elise and the steering should really be manual (it is power assisted and good, but not as communicative/precise). On the plus side, it is pretty solid and can be driven anywhere without the ride being too harsh, even though it has very stiff suspension. It was hit from behind once and it only cost about $1200 to repair. I don't pay that much for insurance or worry much about being hit. With a Power FC standalone and some other hardware and software I can do anything I want to do in terms of tuning, virtual gauges, data logging, etc. It is a great car, but not an exotic. People don't go all weak in the knees when the see it like they would if it was an Elise, but the drivetrain is the same and it shares many of the same qualities, just not as extreme.

Had a black 90 or 91 MR2 back in 1998 or so, loved that car. Didn't have as pure a feel as the Elise does though.

No, it wasn't out first. And, yes, it's like a Boxster that was designed with a straightedge.

Any pictures? I've always loved those generation w/ the TRD Widebody Kit.
Actually, between a truck and an Elise, I been thinking of one as a daily driver.
