wanting to buy an elise

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
Yeah you're right. The thread took place over a 1 and a half period...it wasn't like all in a month or something. I guess it's not too bad.

And I think I may have found the one for me Will keep my lips zipped for now until I found out more.

This point should be emphasized. I've had several people ask me what sort of reaction I get to the car from other drivers, and the honest answer is that I have no idea. The car demands so much attention to drive it that, aside from stoplights, I haven't had much chance to look inside other cars. The steering has no slop and the light weight means that even small throttle changes can cause dramatic speed changes.

I had one passenger shriek like her life was flashing in front of her eyes when I made a mildly spirited turn. I've had to reassure others with things like "don't worry, it'll stop". My parents have ridden in it but never had a real ride in it because I know it'd keep them up at night.

I too have had many of the same concerns about the "practical use" of the elise as a daily driver. I live 5 minutes outside of Washington, DC but do not have a garage. I'm still seriously considering an elise, but I do not want to destroy the car since there has been so much mention of not being able to treat it like a normal car.

I work 2 or 3 miles from my house, but can take the Subway to work on snowy days and I'll probably also buy a beater for the winter too. The threads regarding the salt on the roads is the only thing that has me worried about winters down here.

I just wanted to note that I appreciate everyone's replies to this thread, as it has helped answer many questions I have had. I'll probably test drive one soon at Criswell and drive it around my neighborhood just to check out the clearance on speed bumps and the drive way at work.

Any opinions/worries about keeping an elise ungaraged in the Washington, DC area would be appreciated.

A lot like that!

If you have to parallel park it, I wouldn't even consider it. If you have fairly secure parking in an area where you know your parking "neighbors," than I wouldn't worry to much. Consider a good exterior cover though.
