Challenger Grill

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
Chotto, nice work and really cool license (TX ACBC) !!!
A:
I've got a grill made up and ready to go if anybody wants one. $300 (includes shipping). It doesn't have an exhaust cut-out, but I can make one if needed.
A:
I may still be getting one from you. I'll know more in a couple of weeks.
A:
chotto, you got a PM.
A:
Is it just me, or does this sound like a good name
for a restaurant?

If there is any bar that could be installed with
the kit, you'd have
Challenger Bar & Grill.

A:
you should try the weather stripping or something around the hole where the echaust comes through, could finish the look.
A:
I can be done very easily. If anybody wants it, all they have to do is ask. I prefer without though.
A:
a big thumbs up! for this product!

I just finished mine tonight. Custom fabricated for a 2ubular single tip exhaust. Looks fantastic IMHO in conjunction with the reverie carbon diffuser. One of the really neat things about this grille is that you can simply pop rivet the licence plate to the grill.
A:
I finally got the grill installed. The fit and finish are good. I had some problems with the top 3 screws, but with a second set of hands, all was well.

The grill looks better in person than from the pictures.

Thanks Chotto!

Forgot to add, the weight saving is about 2.4 lbs. Old grill + llicense plate + bolts = 4.6. New grill + plate + bolts = 2.2

What are your thoughts about (not) removing the heatshield behind the muffler? Yours is very visible in that picture so I thought I would ask. Most folks I have seen who have either a challenger-type grille or the rear panel eliminator have removed the rear heat shielding. The theory being (like in the Ferrari street cars with the optional "challenge grille") that the natural airflow out the back would help cool the hot parts.

IMO, it actually looks kind of nice. The picture shows more of what behind the grill, but in person, it's not as transparent. I was going to paint the heatshield black, but decided against it after the test fit.
A:
For those running with the stock exhaust (regardless if you have the Challenger Grill or not) and have removed or altered their heat shield, keep a close eye on the surrounding areas of the exhaust. The stock muffler retains a lot of heat, thus the need for the heat shield. The aftermarket exhaust tend not to hold as much heat. I have an Arqray single tip and have run many track events in 90+ degree temps without a problem. But some people who have run in similar conditions with the stock exhaust and altered their heat shields, have experienced problems. So, if you're going to use the stock exhaust, you should probably keep your heat shield in place.
