Does anyone know why the mirror has the lines on one side and is smooth on the other??? I assume there is no reason other than somebody maybe thought it looked cool, but I just wanted to see if anyone had any other info/ideas? If so, lemme know!

No it isn't. It creates more downforce. It give up a bit of speed in exchange for handling, you see.

Look a little harder and you'll find GM logos on parts all over the car.

I noticed that as well, my only guess is when you use your right hand to move it, it gets better grip??
I won't be seeing it anymore though - ordered (and just received on friday) my smaller rear view kit from tesprit! Hope to put it on sometime this week:

Not really an answer to the specific question, but I did ask Nick Adams about the mirror when he was here in Chicago. He said it was the smallest legal one they could find that mounts that way. Interesting...
