2 Holed Trunk LId

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
Can some one tell me why some Elise's have two holes while others have one? Mine only has the hole where the lock for the lid is, but I've seen some that have a second hole near the rear window. Looks like most have put an antenna there... so I thought it was custom, but then I saw a product to fill that hole with an emblem... Anyone know?
A:
earlier fed elises have them, i have one (#1149). i think it was meant for an antanna hole actually, at least thats what i've been told. i dont really mind since it looks fairly "clean"
A:
The Euro models that were made previously had antennas mounted back there. The US an newer versions dont, so they just used the old rear trunks that were still in stock on the earlier cars.

Another wierd thing I noticed is that some 06 models have the rear fins near the taillights attached with a screw in the middle while mose other cars have them glued in.

There are so many variations during the model run that almost every few months some little change is made.

I have 2 oil coolers/Blaupaunkt LA Radio/old style shifter/2 hole trunklid /protruding center hub covers/not pre-wired for foglights/ old style steering rack, just to name a few variations during the first year.

So two quick questions based on your post because I've been wondering... how does one know how many oil coolers I have and should I care? Second the pre-wire for foglights... is there a way that I can tell??? I'd love to put them in...

All early '05 cars had two coolers, later, it was dropped to one cooler for all cars, but remained two coolers on LSS/Sport Pack cars.

The non-pre-wired for fog lights is a misnomer - on two levels. First, there are no fog lights - they are Driving Lights. Driving Lights are auxiliary high beams, and should only be used with the high beams. They are not the typical American car's "fog lights" that function with the low beams.

Second, ALL cars are wired for the Driving Lights. The early cars (like mine - a very early one) are wired to plug in the Driving Lights. In this case, they come on with the high beams, and cannot be disabled.

After a few months, they changed them to "pre-wired" - this added the wring behind the dash to add the on/off switch under the other light switches. This was required because some states limit the number of lights that can be lit on the front of the car, so there has to be a switch to disable the Driving Lights. They will still only light up with the high beams.

Here's the link to the write-up I did no how to install the Driving Lights:

I didnt know that all cars were prewired for the lights. I thought only cars starting with number 400 or above were, but I guess that is only for the switch. This is good news since a friend of mine is selling his Elise and ordered the lights and the grill when he was in the UK and never installed them. If they only go on with the highs thats OK, since I only have the highs on when its dark and there arent any other cars around.
