where can I buy the 06 LED tail light at the best price?

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
I am interested in buying the 06 LED tail light. Where can I buy them at the best price? I also try to find installation instruction using search, but have no luck.

Thanks.

The prices are all going to be pretty much the same no matter where you go. To quote Irishfan04, (who asked not to be quoted on these prices but I think he's in the ballpark) "Each light costs approx. $275 (x4), you'll need the wiring harnesses at I believe ~$50 (x3), ballasts (~$50 x 2), and the replacement relay (~$50)." There's also been the mention of qa new wiring harness that apparently eliminates interference with the am radio under braking.

What is more important is that you buy them from a place that understands what you need to do the retrofit. Call George at Lotus of South Bay. 310 939-1850 Or Eric at Newport European. Both guys are very knowledgable. Look here and here for install hints. It's super easy and very intuitive. Should take you a half hour, most of that time trying to squeeze yourself under the dash to replace the flasher relay.

Yep. The most helpful hints that anyone can give you is how to wedge yourself under the dash to get at the relay. My advice is to not wear shoes, as you could end up scuffing up the paint on the passenger side door sill.

OT: Alan, it looks like I may be going to LA in a couple months for business...any chance I could see El Negra Plana (excuse my Spanish) in person?

Eric@ Newport has them in stock.

I was at a UK dealer last week and they had the Federal LED's in the accessory book so you could order them from there.

There's a small savings to be had buying from the UK where the 4 LED Lamps cost $712

I find it interesting that Lotus is charging $200 plus for LED tail lights.

I was on a 2000 mile trip in my Elise recently and had lots of opportunities to look at truck tail lights. Many now have LEDs and they are round and five inches in diameter.

I looked for and bought one as an experiement. Cost me a little over $20. (Hmmm. a 1000% markup?) I hooked it up to my 12v train transformer and it was so bright it lit up the room! There are many different styles available. The one I bought has 40+ LEDs in it and little lenses around them to enhance off center viewing.

The real problem is the mounting as trucks depend on a circular flange. The light holder is held in position with a rubber gasket and the gasket is held in place by a flange with a hole in the center. If we are lucky the gasket will fit in the circular depression of the clam but we still need to hold the gasket itself in place.

I have not had time or the inclination to see if the lights will fit.
