is it just me or does this vehicle track in grooves...

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
Is it just me or does this vehicle really like to pull sideways on roadway grooves and bumps. Is it becuase of the tire width or offset of the wheels from the kingpins? I've driven other powersteeringless cars so i don't think that's it. It's a sport pack car.
A:
I have a sport pack car and I've never noticed that it tracked very much.
A:
It may be the camber. Mine got quite a bit worse after I took the shims out in the front.
A:
It's the lightness of the car that does it. My Europa does the same thing...
A:
Yes the elise will do that due to the short wheel base.
A:
Check your front toe. 0 toe to a little toe in will make it track well. Toe out in front will make it track poorly but turn in better.
A:
Yes - but it's nice when you hook the inside wheels in next to the candycane and give a modded GT3 a real run for its money coming out of a corner.

A:
You've got it backwards...it grooves at tracks!

Sorry...that just popped in my mind when I saw your post.
A:
Base wheels/tires, i bet. Tires with a continuous groove/s in the tires will also tend to find the rain grooves and seams in the road.
A:
I think it behaves pretty well -- better than other cars I've had. Surprisingly, even with a little toe out, like I now have.
A:
Although there are some qualities about our cars that may make them sensitive to such things, such as the weight and the wheelbase, it would be silly to assume they all behave the same and ask a question based around that assumption.

The biggest contributing factors are suspension setup and tire setup. Both of those two factors are quite variable from one car to the next, and if you don't like the specific behaviour of your car, can easily be changed.

Mine tracks terrible, but that's my fault. My suspension setup is so aggressive I expect it to track. Significant toe out up front, no toe in the rear, and maximum negative camber. Whatever.

Same here. It also got worse as the front tires wore out. Now that I have 17k on my original front AD07s, it's pretty noticeable, although it's still nowhere near as bad as my Z06 was thanks to much narrower front tires.
A:
they definitely "follow" depressions in the road. like the ones left by semi truck traffic. i think it is the tires.
A:
A048s really follow the grooves, try some other tires

+1 on that. There are a few roads near home with truck depressions in them and the car pulls hard left/right in that stretch. Makes you almost think you've got a flat.
A:
Its also the low profile tires. On another car I swithed to low profile tires and found the car following the ruts and grooves much more.
A:
Never noticed it with either the 07s or 048s. Noticed it alot in some 911 models with crap arse Contis and PZeros. Both tires are noisy in addition to being crappy. I had 048s on my TT cab and never noticed this and no issues with either Pilot Sports or PS2s which are the only tires I now use on my Porsches. I may just be used to it and unless it is bad, I do not notice it.
