A&Q about Lotus
Q:
Just curious. The high beam is located under the low beam, and since Elise sits so low compare to other cars, I would think that it's OK to use high beam at all times since it won't blind cars in front of us as I believe some of you are already annoyed with super bright SUV lights that are too high, so this is OK.
I do not know about the opposite traffic. Anyone can answer?
Thanks.

The high beam is not sharply cutoff as the low beams. It spreads out in all directions and would be shining in other driver's eyes. Unless of course you were right on the other car's bumpers and the rear of their car blocked the light - which in that case, you would be only a few feet from their car (can you say tailgating is stupid?) and wouldn't need the high beams at all...
This isn't even going into the fact that you will be blinding on-coming cars.
No, it is not okay to drive around with the high beams on all the time. Not okay to wire the Driving Lights so they are on all the time either...

Just go someplace dark and turn them on, you'll see they reach 25 feet up at about 150-200 feet in front of you. They'd be blinding, just like other car's high beams.

The fact that they are mounted lower means that, in order to light up the same area, they actually have to be angled UP slightly more than, say, an SUV's high-beams. That's the reason the Low beams are mounted on top you see, so that they can be angled up a bit less.

thanks. the reason i ask is that i am trying to see if i want to change my high beam to the osram white one. i thought i can just use the high beam all the time, so it justifies the purchase, but if i dont use the highbeam that much, i think i dont want to change it.
how much brighter is the osram white compare to stock high beam? if i use the stock high beam when ecological HID low beam is on, will it look out of place?
thanks.
