A&Q about Lotus
Q:
I always leave a car length ahead of me...

so sitting behind a SUV in a tight starbucks parking lot waiting to exit....the ****er decide to back-up! For a good second or two i was in a panic, as the steering wheel was turned and i couldn't find the freak horn buttons!!!! But thank god the woman (surprise surprise!) decided to stop backing up.... didn't need any caffeine after that....
A:
Your lucky she only got one shot in her cappacino.

I've literally changed my driving habits to ALWAYS leave about twenty or twenty-five feet between me and the vehicle in front of me. At stop signs, traffic lights, through a toll booth, at the fast-food drive-through, etc. I just NEVER pull up four or five feet behind somebody's bumper like you would in a normal car.

Yes. Me too. I'm sure the people behind me wonder WTF, but I hang way back and stay to the left a little if room allows so the person in front of me can see me in her side mirror.

This is common behavior with exotics, I think we all think alike. Anytime I see a Ferrari on the hwy in moderate traffic, it's easy to get in front of him because he leaves a ton of room. Then he slows down even more to leave room between me and him...
That's the price we pay.

Exactly, even if I get some jackass honking behind me because he thinks I should pull up I just don't get any closer than about 20 feet to any SUV or truck. Regular cars as well, My rule is I need to be able to see their head and or face in the rearview, then I know they can see me when I start honnking.

As an SUV driver, one thing to keep in mind is that people have a normal expectation of how much space you're going to leave between you and the car in front of you... and since they can most certainly see that car in front of you and if they're on autopilot they might not plan on stopping the car until they on top of you because they figure you'll pull farther forward.
I say this becuase i've nearly run into people for leaving "too much" space. A little extra i think is wise, taking to the side of the lane so they can see you in their mirros is wise... leaving a bunch of space is asking for it because it relies on them being aware enough to stop early.
Just trying to help... (and yes, being able to see their rear view mirror is wise, and also appreciated. i can't see a audi TT if it pulls to close behind me)
to the fellow below, i'm guessing you're just teasing me, but just to be somewhat serious about it, i'm an SUV driver becuase i like driving to the snow in a blizzard with stuff that will bottom out a subaru, and i like parallel parking in tight spots in the city with the comfort of steel bumpers. I don't have any trouble keeping of other peoples cars, but we all know you can't trust anybody else to be so careful.

"I say this becuase i've nearly run into people for leaving "too much" space." that's probably why you are a SUV driver
to the fellow above, yes i was just kidding, can't live in the northeast without an SUV, i own one too
