A&Q about Lotus
Q:
I have MY ELISE in California.
I also like
CHG RULZ
for the "change the rules" lotus motto

We picked up our plates today... before they sent them back. They have been in since November waiting for the car.
For now they are on my wife's Jag X-Type. Texas forces you to put the plate on a car immediately, or return it, you can't get a plate and hold on to it. We will switch them over when the car comes in.
It is a Texas plate "1ELISE". ELISE was already taken and my favored plate "RACER X" and variants were taken.
We will both be glad when our car gets here!

I ordered my plate - should be ready in 6-8 weeks, which appears to be a little (lot?) sooner than my car. However, in California, you can pick up plates without the car.
Mine is a little sappy, so for now it shall remain a mystery. NLC (No Lotus Content), as they say on SELOC.
I was playing around on the dmv site and found that ELYSIAN is not available in CA. However, if you are getting a six-digit plate, ELYSIN is possible, or perhaps ELYZIAN.
I still like ELISIST - kind of a play on words between Elise and Elitist, so seems apropos. Unfortunately, I want the Arts plate and it only allows up to 6 characters.
As a marine biologist, I should get the whale's tail plate, but I just don't like that one. Too bad, since it takes 7 characters.

Probably going w/ just a standard plate, but I got a call from the Fraternal Order of the Police last night, and while I would have ordinarily politely hang up on the caller, the timing piqued my interest and I signed up for a $20 donation- all for a (hopefully official looking) decal to put on the Elise.
Anyone know if these stickers have any effect on ticket to no-ticket ratios when you're pulled over?

That's what i was thinking too. depends on the cop i guess. Maybe if you're doing a couple miles over, but not if you're 10> or so.
I could use this. I found a shortcut to work that saves me 7 miles but at the expense of harrassing cops. all the time is see them hiding. i hate that $hit.

I'm not sure if it's taken in CA, but we're looking into...
"MANTIS"
For our Krypton Green. Already looks like an insect.. it's the color of an insect... why not?

I've got "TRACKED" which probably can be taken in a few different ways : )

And for yellow, HORNET, but it's taken. Surprisingly, so it WHORNET which I would have found amusing. Also YELOJKT. GRNHRNT, GRHORNT
GRNWASP is available. SO is this- WASPISH

Strangely enough, "ASNDRVR" isn't taken (In California at least.) And despite being of Asian ancestry, I doubt that I would want that plate anyway...
My plate (that's waiting for the Elise) is obnoxious... it touts my alma mater (USC!! Fight on, Trojans! )

I liked
MY MS. L (my missile )
I had it on a MKIV twin turbo Supra. I loved watching people mouth it in the rear view at lights and watching their confused faces.
I'm medical so that yields tons of possibilities in the abbreviation/acronym department.
My Dual Sport bike : MUD PRN (mud as needed)
My Sport Bike: KODEBLU (a code blue is a life/death emergency heart attack) It's my avatar bike.....blue as well.
For the Elise:
DIE LIVN
2ND CAM
4 BEATS8 4 cylinder that eats up V8's
HND BILT
BAD BRIT
STUCK IN (addressing the ingress....egress)
VICIOUS I swear those headlamps give it a frowning, angry look

I just ordered "SIZMTRS" for my DC plates! The DC DMV has a pretty cool web site that lets you see what the plate will look like and it tells you if it's even available before you get too excited.
It also tells you if are using any words or terms that are "unacceptable". It's kinda fun to type stuff in to see what's not acceptable
It took mine, but I have a feeling when a human reviews my request, I'll get rejected... oh well, it's worth a try! Keeping my fingers crossed...

Randy and others in CA...
This is available!!
A:
My favorite to date (but is taken) was MSAGRO. I could not figure it out until I got in front of the car and saw it in my morror.
MSAGRO backwards = ORGASM
That would be an excellent Elise plate.

I'd get TRANSIO, but in SoFla, people might get the wrong idea about me!

The California DMV site also allows you to preview the plate for the numerous types of personalized plates available and it will tell you if your combo is unavailable.
I typed in an unacceptable combo "FU**111" and it displayed the plate and did not reject it. However, you have to provide an explanation of your plate when you submit the application and I'm sure that the human censors would nix it. I know that some people delight in trying to slip one by them, but I think they are pretty good at catching most stuff.
I know that they warn you not to even bother trying the number 69 on your plate unless you own a 1969 vehicle.

So even if you dont have car yet, you can order the personalized plates if available???. I checked with my states licensing website and the one I want is available but on the application, it asks for VIN number.
A:
California allows you to order a plate without the car. You can't actually obtain the plate until you have the car. The DMV will hold the plate until such time you can go in with a plate and trade it for the held plate.
The alternative is to trade a plate from another car you own and the transfer the plate to your Elise when you get it. Doing this way will incur two plate transfer fees.
A:
Yeah, I thought that was weird too- all they wanted was my drivers license number, address and a credit card. It says it takes 6-8 weeks to process. Anyone have an idea how that works since the dealer only gives me 30 temps? Good ol' DC government at work again...
Oh, and then there's this asterisk and small print at the bottom of the page- would anyone like to stab at WTF this means? I took it to mean "you will be paying $78 for these plates". I don't know why they couldn't just say it that way. Do people actually order a personalized plate and just hang it on their wall? Seems like it'd be easier to make one up in Photoshop (and be able to have it say what you really want without fear of being censored):
"The Reservation Fee of $52 is the fee charged for requesting a personalized plate only. If you wish to display the personalized plate on your vehicle, an additional $26 display fee will be collected to register the personalized plate at the time the personalized plate is picked up at the DC DMV."

Here is the definitive Elise personalized license plate:
NOTAKIT
I know Kiyoshi can appreciate this one...
A:
just spoke to dept of licensing in WA and they will not allow me to get the personalized license plate until I have actual car...unlike CA ...kinda stinks...if someone sneaks in and takes my plates, they will pay!...
