A&Q about Lotus
Q:
I have a track day coming up soon. Currently I have Mobil 1 5w-40 oil in the car with about 3 autocrosses on it, 8 months, and 2000 miles. Should I change my oil before the track day?
A:
What color is it? How hard is it for you to change your oil? If it's easy why not? Oil is cheap. That being said I track my car and change my oil about every 3-4k.
A:
Change it after the track day. Autocrosses do not get the oil as hot as highway driving.
A:
8 months? I think that's long enough to get the oil changed.
I plan to change oil (not filter) in my Elise for the upcoming two-day track event. The oil is three months old, and only 500 miles including one track day.

You don't know how many times I've seen people get yelled at because "color doesn't matter!!!" according to all of the "experts" at the oil forums.
A:
Oil color must mean something. The Elise and Honda powered Seven keep the oil so clean it is very hard to see it on the dipstick. The same Mobil 1 is black by 1000 miles in the Honda Odyssey.

Easy answer...
You can't change oil too much but you can change it too little.
