A&Q about Lotus
Q:
For those who have painted the Center Consoles, is this stuff safe to reinstall after a couple of hours. Can says dry time is an hour, but "chip resistant" after seven days. So how long do I wait to reinstall? Thanks

I am thinking about painting the value covers. For anyone who has used it, has Krylon Fusion held up with the engine heat?
A:
No prob. so far as far as chipping etc.

Doing fine so far.

I just painted my center console today using textured black Rustoleum (sp?) for plastic. It seems to match well with the other black plastic in the car. I got mine at Home Depot.

Did my engine covers in Fusion months ago. Looks good as ever. For the interior I'd say the stuff is safe to install after drying overnight.

I used it on my engine covers-I did several thin coats and let it dry overnight between coats. On the can it says, "Fully chip resistant within 7 days". I'd follow that guideline if I were using it on the console; even with the seats out it would be pretty easy to snag it on something or bump it with a tool, etc.

LSU, Where did you buy your Fusion, is it local? I know you have Solar and mine is Saffron - assuming you painted it yellow - thanks in advance!

I painted my engine cover more than a year ago and despite the Arizona heat, countless washes, it's holding up well. I'll take some shots tomorrow.

Autozone and Discount have it....but I went with black. Gloss was too glossy and t hey don't carry semi, so Flat is what I used. It looks good, especially after some wax and TecProtect on it.

Thanks for the info - I found it as you said at autozone and bought both yellow and Black to test and see what I like best - I think I am going to paint my diffuser Flat black first then tackle the interior we gotta meet up sometime soon.

Here's a picture of my engine bay. I did this more than a year ago. No touch ups.

Sorry, not Krylon but....
Duplicolor black. (Truck, Van, RV)
Testors model paint for the engine cover Lotus symbol.
Krylon paint pen on Lotus symbol and lettering...
It's a semi-gloss. Nice match with everything and came out very nice.
Holding up well after about 5k miles.

What Krylon Fusion are people using to match Saffron Yellow? The Krylon Fusion Safety Yellow 2330 is too yellow. Is a custom mix required? If so, where are you getting it from?
A:
they will get you the exact color in a spray can.

I called them and it was about $50 for two cans but the paint wasn't Krylon Fusion so it does not adhere to plastic. Did you use a plastic primer with their paint?

Tower sells a spray can of adhesion promoter that you spray onto the plastic before painting it. I did this when I painted my center console, and it worked fine. They also sell a spray can of clear coat to go over the paint.

Vortex, What parts did you paint? I have a KG also. thanks
A:
oh I did not buy any, just know people who have for other cars and had good luck with the matching.
