A&Q about Lotus
Q:
i'm full of Q's aren't I!
I didn't notice until today that there was even something called a "premium pack". Includes alipine stereo, leather shift nob, hand brake gaiter, stowage tray and cup holder.
Anybody have pics of this stuff?
I could care less about a handbrake gaiter and alpine stereo, but the other stuff is of interest to me becuase it'll be a quasi-daily driver.
thanks in advance.
A:
uhhhh...Mine has the Alpine stereo but none of the other stuff and no mention of premium package. I assumed they just finally put a decent head unit in the later builds
A:
I have it. The Alpine is just as worthless as the standard unit. Everything else (speakers, etc) is the same. The cupholder is just big enough for a can of Coke. No good for bottles or manly-sized coffee mugs. It slides out from the under the dash right below the AC controls. Not sure what they mean by a "stowage tray". I don't think the storage in my car is any different from the other (non-premium) '06's I've seen.
I have the Premium Pack because I bought a showroom car. Had I had the patience to place an actual order I would not have opted for it.
A:
I've got it too. I haven't used the cup-holder yet, though. I can just picture whatever's in there spilling all over someone's leg.
The Alpine speakers do need upgrading, too.
I wouldn't want to go without all the leather, though. I love it.
here's a shot from Weissach's site. Mine's the same but rectangular slitching instead of diamond.

The stowage tray divider is the metal piece that you can see inside the aluminum tray in front of the passenger. the premium pack includes this sliding divider and the liner along the bottom of the tray.
A:
See my avatar <--- for a photo of the cupholder.
I may be in the minority, but I think the Alpine is pretty good. The XM radio is a nice feature -- I listen to that most of the time, but it would be nice if it also played MP3 discs.
A:
Lotus must have asked the sound system manufacturers to sumbit their lightest weight systems for review.

A:
The alpine HU is much nicer but its a shame they left the rest of the system the same.
A:
Is your speedometer going to 200 mph?
A:
I personally don't see the point in getting the premium pack. For daily driving purposes the touring pack is sufficient IMO. With the money you save you can upgrade the stereo with something better and get an aftermarket cupholder that works.

Suprisingly the cup holder works for a few things INCLUDING beverages. I have driven with a Grande Coffee from Starbucks and most 16-20oz cups that you would get from a fast food chain. The key is that the cups do not go all the way in and you cannot take corners quickly or the liquid spills out. Just push the cup in until it you can't move it and you are good to go.

Can you order this lotus branded "cup holder" foreign object from a dealer to retrofit to an 05? Seems like this new invention might be useful.

so they didn't just start using th alpine stereo as a standard at the end of the build year? hmm. So I got a weird mix then. gotta love it.

Man, those little shelves are lifesavers. When I was still too young to own a car, my brother had a 1989 Volkswagen Golf that had a shelf like that. It was so friggin useful, back in the days when we practically lived out of that car.
The liner and divider, I don't know... Doesn't seem at all necessary.
A:
The liner is rubber, which prevents things from sliding around. ie.sunglasses you dont want to go flying or get scratched. the 'grip pattern is actually mini lotus logos, too.
I had no idea that divider could slide. i gotta check it out.

At first I was not sure if I liked the diamond stitching. It has grown on me over time. After I found a photo of the square stitching I think I prefer the diamond. I don't think I would order a car with the premium pack, but if a car came my way with the option I would take it.
I think magnolia would be a pain to keep clean, but this really does look nice.

Magnolia is actually a light beige and not as white as it always seems to look in photos. Keeping it clean hasn't been a problem.
My premium-pack car had the shelf divider but no liner. I made my own liner in using sticky dash mats.

true - a lot of people are fine with the base
