The I LOVE MY CAR thread

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
So last night I was leaving a friends house and pretty much the entire way home I couldn't believe how much I loved my car.

I loved passing people JUST as I got "on cam".....awesome

I loved being on a really smooth freeway off/on ramp and just sitting in amazement at how much damn feedback this car gives you.

I love the way it sounds

I love the way it looks

thank you Lotus....I never thought a car could be MORE fun than a motorcycle......................but I may be sold...............this car IS A M A Z I N G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

It's ok to love your car, just don't LOVE your car, ok.

I love the way my car sounds echoing off the grandstands at Milwaukee Mile!
Real LOUD!

i love my g500 that way, cept it doesn't matter what the rpms are... although i'm alwasy a little tearful at the pump when it takes 15 minutes to fill my 25 gallon tank. But the view of the road is just phenomenal, and the headroom that makes all other vehicles feel downright claustrophobic... it feels like you're sitting way up on top of a compact little tank with 1.

I'm just hoping i can get myself into an elise and i have the same feeling but in a very different way. Something that has many engineers and designers dreams in it but for a wildly different purpose.

There are so many swollen marshmellow cars on the road today.

A couple of months ago, a college kid in a car next to me yelled out, "dude, I wanna f!@k your car!"

I guess he loved my car, too.

Funny, I felt much the same way when I first got mine. However, last week I was driving home, it was just after twilight, the coolness of the Northeast Autumn was just hitting the air. I was driving with the top on and the heat (yeah mine works) was warming the interior of the car. It was humming along and all felt right with the world. After 10 months driving it, I really feel very connected to the experience. It's a great car to drive, even if you are just commuting home.
A:
Love it.

Yeah.

I love the Elise. Sometimes when I'm sitting around reading a magazine and daydreaming about cars, I'll think to myself, "hmmm, maybe the next car I get should be more 'comfortable'". Then I go drive the Elise. And I repent for my blasphemy.... and for penance force myself to repeat "the next car I get will be an Exige S" ten times.
A:
i had the teenage kid "iwanna f#$^ your car thing too.

i love the way it changes your mood just walking up to it! you can have a pissy day at work, your old lady kicked your dog, the tax assessor left one of those door hangy things at your house, you just got a jury summons kinda day... and you walk out to the car in the driveway and bamm!!!! life sure is good!!!

i wonder if the trust fund rich, and mommy and daddy bought me the car owners feel this way or if it is an "i earned this" feeling that makes it soooo special??

OK - my story (skip this if you're short of time).
We lived in the UK when the Elise first came out and my wife and I both fell in love with the car. Only problem - we were totally broke. We had a monstrously huge mortgage and no spare cash for anything.
What we DID have was a life insurance policy that paid off the aforementioned mortgage should either of us shuffle off this mortal coil/ croak / kick the bucket / or even DIE.... One mellow night we decided that if either of us was unfortunate enough to "cease to be" one gift we could give to the (hopefully distraught) survivor would be an Elise. We made a pact that the survivor MUST buy an Elise out of the insurance money and drive it in memory of the deceased.
Fast forward to this year. We had moved to the US with our business and had sold the UK house at an obscene profit. Even paying off the mortgage and buying a beautiful place in the US there was lots of change - so it was off to the Lotus Dealer.....

After waiting for our '06 Racing Green Elise to make its way over the water we picked it up and drove it home. That night we were drinking a glass or three of wine and at one point just looked at each other and said what was in both our minds... "F&*% Me - we have a Elise in the garage and we're both alive!

That's one of the many reasons I can't drive the thing without a permanent stupid grin on my face - and I defy anyone who was given one - or had no problem raising the money - to match that wonderful, wonderful feeling.

That's a great story man, that is super awesome. When I first saw the Elise (series 1, what do they call it..haha...damnit) I was IN LOVE and SWORE that if they ever came to the states I would do whatever it took to get one. Well they came here and I was finally in a position to buy one, and while there was no life or death pacts involved, I can't belive I've been fortunate enough to be IN a position to get one when one was able to be GOT!!! haha "GOT"

General rambling sorry I have a cold : I have had mine for 3 months and I still feel like I have borrowed the car from a friend and will have to give it back in a couple days. I still can't comprehend the fact that it is mine ! I recently finally put on the license plates, that helped a bit. I am starting to get used to being 6 inches of the ground and when I drive in a normal car I feel like I am in a bus. It is so true, I can have a totally crap day and get stuck in horrible traffic but while I am behind the wheel it is pure fun and all is good in the world. Sometimes in the mornings when I pull into work early and park the Elise as I am wallking away from it I stop and look at it, then walk to a different angle and look at it some more. And then I think aaahh ! that is why people take my picture all the time and almost rearend the car in front of them trying to get a look at the badge. It is a beautiful car from every angle ! Lovin it ! And there is nothing like the sunday drives when we have 6 - 7 angry little buzzing Elises in a row ripping down PCH towards malibu like a scene out of the Italian job. I love it when the drones all harmonize as we shift through gears at the same time !
