Problem with air filter

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
I just installed a K&N air filter, but from 5000 to 6000 rpms does not respond as it use to, after 6000 and once it kicks in sounds and performs great, also the engine ligth came on, Does some ono know what i did wrong? Thanks

Did you close the box right? It's easy to mess that up. I also have heard of boxes broken by owners doing the install. You might want to look it all over closely.
A:
You may not have the airbox sealed up and put together properly causing turbulent airflow for the MAF? Or perhaps your filter was over oiled causing bit of oil to get on the MAF? Check all fittings.

*Surferjer* beat me to it.

Cheers,
Skottoman

Is this a drop in filter kit, or a conical replacement? Oil it too much?
A:

Go to an autozone and rent their code reader. I almost guarantee it'll be code P0171 (System too lean - Bank 1).

There are dozens of posts about this issue on EliseTalk... and probably thousands on the Celica forums.

Don't let it drop below 6,200rpm.

If you are not on the track put it back the was it was.
