A&Q about Lotus
Q:
thanks all you b******ds. I just went out an got a beautiful elise from south bay lotus, the canyon red one with sport and touring...traded in my mitsu evo. Lost lots of money, gained Lots of guilt, but that won't last.
It's a ridiculously cool car, hopefully going to autocross it this weekend with bmwcca at hollywood park, and then maybe buttonwillow (speedventures) or infineon (bmwcca) in november.
anyway, elise talk is responsible for this.!!
A:
Great! I'm glad we were able to talk someone into SOMETHING!
Enjoy your car!
Rock on!!!!
A:
Sweet. Now get some pics. Would also be interested in a comparison driving with the EVO. A rocket of a sedan. Almost bought one a couple of years ago when they first came to the states.
A:
i've driven the car exactly 10 miles, the evo feels like a bus in comparison. It's kind of fun inspecting everyone's brake pads on the commute. No, seriously, hopefully by this weekend I'll get a feel for the car. The evo is very fast, and feels much stronger than the elise. The turbo kicks in at 3500 and the car is geared short enough to get into the powerband really quickly. The elise is much more linear, even when the VTTi or whatever comes in.
What really is interesting to me, is that my 2000 bmw mcoupe really feels like a large luxury car. The steering wheel feels twice as large, the shoulder space is grand, and i feel like I am sitting on the car, rather than in it, like the elise. My life is tough, I know...
But I really won't know anything until I get the car on a track, basically i am sure it will reveal the weaknesses of this driver, while the evo just covers them up and gets on with business.
A:
Yeah, the Evo is BOOM! fast. Point it and it goes THERE.
The Lotus is a low slung bitchin' sports car with a much more linear powerband.
And the looks?
Wait until you see the looks you're gonna get...

You might want to get it through break in miles before you auto x it.
Congrats on the ride.
A:
Congrats! I have a Canyon Red as well. I love it. Enjoy!
A:
Congrats.
Your head will explode when you find out what it can do at an autoX or a track!
Oh, good times!
A:
How many miles do you have on it? You might want to go somewhat easy on it till after the 1000 mile service if you plan on keeping it for a long time and not having any warranty hassles . Just my opinion though, others are sure to disagree. I kept mine under 6k rpm for the most part until the 1k serivce. Just a few bursts here and there during the break in period. That was a looooong 1000 miles !
A:
i actually bought a used 06 with 6,900 miles on it. A "Lotus FACTORY DEMO" for what its worth, probably driven from mile #1 by press and sales reps, which may mean no break in. So I can drive it like hell from day one...
speaking of looks, now I have to get plastic surgery, liposuction, and a hair transplant...just great.
A:
someone recently posted that an exige s they saw was currently "being broken in" before being handed off to the press, so maybe that's good news if you bought a press/demo car.. someone might actually make sure it gets properly broken in before changing hands.
A:
i hope you're right, thanks..

Then he explained it was a demo/press car with 6900 miles, he couldn't possibly do anything that hasn't already been done to it!!
A:
i finally got some pics of my car, weird, it looks like alot like the other elises around. I guess I gotta modify it a little bit...
Let see if I can post some pics...
A:
The second picture really shows off the color well, very nice photo. Enjoy your car.
A:
Congratulation on your new car! Welcome to the former Lotus demo club, my Sport Elise was the press car. I was told that it was broken in and checked out before I bought it. So far, it's been great. I see that you took your pictures in the Marina, is that where you live? We own a home there.
Janette
Sport Elise #48

i now live in santa monica, across the street from shutters and casa del mar, the marina is just a great place where you can park you car and take pictures of it without attracting too much attention...i used to live right on that street a couple of years ago.
I wouldn't know it was a demo if they didn't tell me and charge me less for it...it drives great, and I autocrossed it the other day, and nothing fell off...
