A&Q about Lotus

Hello all:
I am considering a used 05/06 Elise. I am in SC, and there is no Lotus dealers in the whole state. So, if someting would go wrong with the car, I would have to ship it 300 miles away.
Can someone tell me if the Elise is a reliable car?
What is the most common problems?
I am DIY kind a guy, and I like to work on my car myself. Is it easy to work on the Elist- like changing oil, brakes, maintenance..etc?
And finally, should I stay away from 2005 model, because it is the first year model?
I appreciate all the info guys.

05's are not a problem. my closest dealer is 400 miles away in denver. did it stop me from buying the car? NO! they have a toyota motor in them so you can figure out the reliability there. ya the little stuff is a bit tedeous. loose bolts window adjustments...bla bla bla. fact is this thing is cool don't hesitate if you are interested.

Agree. Get an '05 or '06 now...

Yes, and you'll get a free trip to Vegas if you purchase b/f the end of November. Come on, it's a Toyota engine and gear box...you can't go wrong. There's not much else to them other than the engine/gear box. That's what makes it such a joy to own and drive.
