The Elise to me, is a car, not a go-kart, but with go-kart like handling. =)

go-karts have no body - the Elise has a body therefore it cannot be a go-cart. The Ariel Atom on the otherhand is a go-kart - but I would love to have one!

I think it's a go-kart, and am thankful for the connection it has to the road everytime I drive it.... but literally a go-kart? No. The Ariel Atom is much closer as said above.

IMHO, the term "Go Kart" is a derogatory remark that suggests that the Elise is not comparable to other "Sports Cars".
The Elise has a suspension therefore it is not a Go Kart.
Everyone referred to my MCS as a Go Kart as well even though it is 700 pounds heavier then the Elise.
So, I guess a Go Kart is something that's small, relatively cheap and makes you portly POS look slow.

Buzzy is basically a pretty rudimentary vehicle.
Believe that the Briggs & Stratton has a much more usable power curve.

I have no idea why anyone would consider calling the Elise a go-kart would be a derogatory remark. Then again, it is my license plate for my Lotus so maybe I'm biased.

Recently drove a Superkart, and no offense to us Elise/Exige owners, but our cars are no Superkart!
Based on the times you get in one at places like Thunderhill, they are more into the 125 TaG category. Although you would be hard pressed to find a place where I would not whip a stock Elise/Exige with my 125 Sonik TaG.
I am easily 3-5 seconds faster at Thunderhill in my kart than in the Exige.
Thus calling an Exige/Elise a kart is more of an insult to the kart.

My favorite moment was afetr a day of racing at Jim Hall's go kart track in Oxnard, the instructor said to the class: "Now everyone be careful driving home in your cars, remember they are not go karts. Everyone except the guy with the Lotus Elise."
