A&Q about Lotus
Q:
From the S1 that showed up at LOG26.
No shot of the lower attachment points but they appeared to be the points where the inertia reels attach to the inboard side of the roll hoop.

Well done. It looks like the fabricator made the ends suited for easy removal, but I don't see how this could be the case unless there was a joint in the middle of the bar.

I didn't ask the owner but was pretty sure it was Lotus parts. Here's a cockpit shot that shows the middle of the bar (didn't realize I had this shot before). I don't recall any other joints, so I think it would take a good bit of effort to remove the bar.

Those are the Lotus parts - FYI. Just like in my car except mine is left-hand drive.

Meat - so this a-frame and petty bar will fit on the standard elise roll hoop? Is your car an S1 or S2? I've been thinking about a full cage, but this may be a good enough compromise. How easy is it to remove and install the petty bar? When I'm participating in DE's you have to at least start the day with in instructor, which would require I remove the petty bar.

My car is an S1 Exige.
The Petty bar is removable, but I've never had mine out.
You don't need to remove it for a passenger to fit.

nice pics. has anyone seen this one in person? a better solution for us taller drivers.
A:
That's the official Lotus A-frame for the S2 AFAIK.
It's a more involved process to put it in compared to the S1 as the window surround and such is attached to the rollbar and you need to cut more parts.
Not sure if the A-frame for the S2 is actually sold separately or if it was a complete new rollbar as well.. Dealer should know if they contact Lotus Motorsport.
The reason for the extra 'hoop' over the driver is because the S2 rollbar sits lower than the S1 and to get enough clearance for taller drivers they needed to do this.
Does mean that on this S2 solution you can't fit your softtop or hardtop once the cross-bar is in place though!! (could be a problem depending on your local track rules..)
Bye, Arno.

How is the diagonal brace removed? It mounts between two solid points and has no joint in the middle. Very interested in the method used for this.

Look at the first photo. The clamp that holds the "A" and the diagonal to the roll bar can be unbolted and moved/removed. At the same time, the bolts at the top and bottom of the diagonal can be removed. It should just pull all apart. Then you replace the clamp at the top of the "A". Tedious, but do-able...

Any idea how they provide access to put in the bolts through the side rail for the corner brace? I've been thinking of bracing my roll bar extension.
