Seems to me that if Proton wants to survive they are going to have to be more flexible. You can't have it all your way when you are on a slippery slope.

If Proton goes under won't the same fate be the future for Lotus? Would they try to go it alone? It would be sad to see them disolve.

Companies like this don't dissolve, their assets are sold to other people. In this case most likely another brand that wants the Lotus name without regard to the reason that Lotus' brand is so unique. If Proton goes belly up more than likely the other Malaysian car company will buy it or another big Asia company will. In all likelihood the Lotus brand would be sold (yet again) and driven further away from its true nature to make a car that does not fit with the lightweight & fun to drive nature that Lotus should be. While I believe that current Lotus management understands this but they are not the ones in control, Proton or whoever buys them is. And I doubt they will "get it".

Sadly Lotus is making a comeback. With Mr. Kimberley as the CEO, Lotus seems to be on the right track. It will take some time, I’d say 3-5 years before Lotus could stand on their own.

or perhaps a Chinese company.

I agree, if Lotus is profitable (engineering services + car mfgring), someone will likely buy it.

It seems, tho, that our engine will not be produced by Toyota/Yamaha much longer, according to a Toyota exec I know. He doesn't think there are any other vehicles continuing to use this engine. NLA in Matrix, XRS and Celica is gone.

(Yes, I asked him to tell someone @ Toyota to buy Lotus.)

Good, maybe they'll put a decent engine in it then.

Someone was smoking crack for that kind of valuation. AM doesn't sell that kind of volume even at $250k per car. I'd say even half that would be too much. I would look closer to $500 million, even with the value of the brand and other goodwill.

And I still think BMW would be the best choice for Lotus.

Yeah I thought the same thing no way in hell AM is worth that kind of money unless that includes Jag. Ford must want to really keep AM.
