Is your Elise/Exige your daily driver?

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
I searched through 10 pages of results for "daily driver" & didn't come across a poll like this (which is a surprise), sooo..

Is your Lotus your daily driver?
A:
It didn't start out that way (was not my original intention) but has seemed to end up that way.....how can anyone walk past their Elise to get in something else The only time I drive something else is if I require more than one seat for passengers....
A:
Great gas milage in the Exige. Now, if I can just figure out how to get a lotus factory warrantable Ubercharger installed. I hear the milage goes up to near 40/gal.

My Elise is not supposed to be my daily driver, but it has become just that. I have a 1999 Toyota Sienna minivan that has 100,000 miles on it and has never failed me. The kids can make a mess in it and I can drive it anywhere and not care what happens to it. It is just hard to pass up driving the Elise when I don't need the utility of the Sienna. In the last 10 months of Lotus ownership, I have put more miles on my Elise than I have in the Sienna minivan.

I may be in the minority, but personally I get no pleasure out of freeway driving in the Elise. It's like using a scalpel when a butter knife is all you need. So unless I'm headed somewhere to enjoy the twisties, I take my regular car.
A:
Wow, I'm presently surprised to see how many of use them as daily drivers!

This is a quote worth saving....

+1

My daily driver was supposed to be my 4Runner. We had a warm winter and I was able to drive every week (except snow days).

If highway miles bother you, get out Google Maps (or an Atlas), open a beer and begin to develop some alternate routes.

Before the Elise, I used to dread a 35 minute commute. Now I look forward to a 55 minute drive!!!

I save the scalpel for when it's most enjoyable! For me, that's on the backroads.
A:
Mine's been a daily driver since I got it 2 months ago. The only days that suck are when it's raining as it'll get dirty and my footwell leaks.

I love my scalpel as well

And i am disgraced to use anything else!

Considering how many "used" '05s are out there with around 5K miles, I too am surprised at the number of people who are daily drivers. I expected complete opposite numbers than the poll shows.

When the parking lot at the destination is filled with idiots that don't give a second thought to trashing the property of others, I walk past the Elise.

In DC, that's just about every parking lot.

It's not the people voting, die hard etalkers, that are selling their cars.... it's people that didn't realize what they were getting into who are only putting on a few miles before flipping out

PS, 20K in one year on mine

I like that scalpel analogy. Picked up my car early March '05 and have over 9,800 miles. I'm fortunate to have good roads, virtually no stop & go and I even enjoy short freeway runs. Merging and exiting are a blast! I'll drive it til it wears out and then buy another, unless there's something better at the time.
Lotus Delete Trips:
-to an anticipated 'hostile' environment
-XL and/or inflexible friends
-too large, too dirty, too jagged cargo
-need to tow a trailer

I agree! The second and third are almost the same though.
A:
I'd drive my other car more... if I had another car!
