A&Q about Lotus
Q:
Yes, daily driver. Why drive anything else?
A:
I have two other cars, VW Passat and Audi A4 Convertible, which I sometimes drive to work but usually I use the Elise for my short 20 minute commute.

me, too! It's good ammo for me to show my parents how many of ya'll do drive this everyday. They're giving me sh*t about the Exige now.

When I'm home it's turned into my daily driver. I could always find a fun way to work. On the road I find that rental cars are nowhere as fun. Can't wait to be able to drive it to my next road job in so cal.
A:
Yep, Mine is now 6 days old and have but 1300 miles on her!!! This includes the drive down from PA... LOVE it and drive it every day everywhere!
A:
I can not able to fit too many of my sales asmple in the elise so I need to drive my other car during the week
A:
my daily. Hit 3 times with trailer hitches. I don't parallel park and try to find places out of the way.
Driving my 93 Miata daily. Love it I can cut people off and honk the horn like everyone else.
Miata is really a Lotus built by the Japanese anyway.
have fun

I am guessing that virtually all of us in colder climates are likely to use a different vehicle as the daily driver.
A:
is a realitive term.
I joke that in San Jose when it gets over 80 it is too hot and when it gets under 70 it if freezing.
Gave a family friend a ride in Canada once - picked him up a 8AM with three feet of snow on the ground. He came out in a short sleeve shirt and called it a bloody heat wave. I asked him where he was from and he just said up north.
I drive with the top off unless it is raining. On the cool days it is the same as having a double expresso.
From an exiled Canadian it all seems rather absurd.
have fun

I agree, I get no particular pleasure from driving the freeway with the Elise, so if I must, I drive my other car.
However, my drive to work is a road of twisties and if I time the commute correctly, I get to REALLY DRIVE to work.
A:
I drive mine about 1/2 the time. Depends on the weather, and anticipated usage. My commute doesn't involve the freeway, though.
Today, Houston is flooding.

I voted no but only because I use my other car (06 Legacy 2.5GT) during bad weather. I've had the Elise since February (8 months to the day actually) and it has just over 10,000 miles on it. The biggest expense so far has been replacing the rear tires ($470~), aside from that its VERY easy to live with on a daily basis.
A:
I've been using it as a DD, but will probably use my other car on rainy days... cuts down on elise-washing time, and it isn't as fun to drive in the rain. Besides, I couldn't find any water proof driving shoes. It seems anything with goretex has to be at least 5 inches wide
A:
Definitely not my daily driver. I can't think of many driving experiences more painful than being stuck in heavy traffic in the Lotus. Why waste the tires and deal with the poor visibility when there is zero return to be had, since there is too much traffic to do anything fun?
I'll probably drive it to work tomorrow though, since I'm having new front tires put on in the morning.
A:
Wow... I thought there would only be a few daily drivers here... not the majority!
You guys are hardcore. I'm too scared of getting hit by someone around here. Besides, I spent all the time/money to convert my truck to run on waste vegetable oil I may as well get some return on investment by driving it on free fuel
A:
Had mine for 16 months-she's my daily driver. My "snow" car is my old Fiat Spider with studded Pirellis and two sand tubes in the trunk. Next month, I'm anticipating that will all change with the grand opening of the Southeast Corridor light rail line, which will drop me 1/4 mile from work. We'll see how much I miss driving the Elise after a few people fall asleep and drool on my shoulder on the train...

My dialy driver makes the elise seem very cushy.
yamaha yzf R1 driven daily year round unless it's snowing or icy (about a week or so a year in seattle)

I see Larry 2 - 3 times a week during my daily commute at the intersection of Beverly and Olympic. Either he is stuck at the light or I am, pretty funny to see people gawk as the strange little red car flashes it's lights and honks at the strange little yellow car, usually wave too if traffic is light.
A:
Yeah baby!

I enjoy driving the Elise to work, but a lot of my good weather daily driving is spent on motorcycles (because there are not enough of them here). The winter DD chore goes to a Jeep Liberty 'cause that's what it's good at. The Elise is for the serious fun times, which adds up to about 5k miles a year so far. Would be more, but there's a lot of toys to exercise
