So...How was LOG. We had a heck of a time here in Buffalo NY.

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
Hello all,

How was LOG. It was darn lucky that I did not fly out on Wednesday as I had planned. I did not go because of work and my Dad (who is 90 and just broke his arm).

But the kicker was that on Thursday night, the northern suburbs of Buffalo got hit with the earliest ice and snow storm in the history of the area. We received 18 inches of slush...over night.

The weight of the snow/slush on the leave ladden trees snapped and toppled almost all trees in this area. No fooling. I bet that 80% of trees in this area are damaged or down. It took down power lines and we were without power since Thursday to Sunday. There are still 150,000 homes here without power.

Had I gone..I would have come home to a flooded basement...ruining a whole bunch of stuff..includng computers...power tools...Lionel Trains...etc.

I am sure my wife and sons would not have been able to hook up the generator to power the house. I was lucky that I did not go.

Damage in the area is like a "tree" bomb went off and it has been unbelievable.

They are calling this the "perfect storm" as it was just the right conditions in about a 25 mile wide path....and we got hammered. I have lived in Buffalo my entire life including the Blizzard of 77 and nothing was worse than this. We have NEVER had a snow storm this early....at least not in my memory.

It was something! I posted some pictures...but it really does not get the scope of the damage.

Now keep in mind...that over the past few years others have had far further worse things happan in the Floridea...the Carolinas...The Gulf Coast and New Orleans...so I am not trying to minimize the terrible things that happaned there and in no way is this a comparison. Only a few..less than 10 people died here because of the storm..so it does not compare to recent events...but I thought some of you would like to see it.

Thanks for the pics.....they remind of my years in Tonawanda. I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of the Lionel trains, if you're in the mood.

Still uploading/editing some pictures..

It's really bizzare seeing all of that snow with green leaves still on the trees. The damage with the green leaves on the trees looks like the result of a pretty nasty thunderstorm. But, it's pretty easy to understand why snow on a tree full of leaves would cause havoc.

Pretty crazy images and really an incredible storm.

Lionel Trains are all put away. We had a large layout at one time...but kids change...and trains went away when my guys discovered video games and then that girls were more fun than both of those. The basement turned into a den...with XBox...then a projector with big screen...and computers.

By the way....when my family read this thread...they told me that I should have added that I also would have come home to a DIVORCE! had I gone to LOG.

So where are the LOG info and pictures? Anyone go?

Reminds me of the huge snow storm in Boston back in 1997, IN APRIL, that paralyzed the whole city. I'm so glad I don't live there anymore.
