Cracked up my Esprit

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
Last week I took my Esprit V8 onto one of our local farm-to-market roads and was just having a fine time -- but not driving super-fast. It was a very pleasant morning, I had some good tunes on the stereo. I was actually on my way to a nearby town to get some new tires. As it happened, the highway department had just graded a lot of loose dirt up onto the shoulders of the road, and I didn't notice until it was too late.

I came out of a corner, skipped into the loose dirt and lost traction. The car veered left, I steered right and hit the brakes. . . too much brakes! After that I was pretty much just a passenger as the car spun and went tail-first through a barbed wire fence, then skidded to a stop in the soft dirt of the field.

The car took out a cedar fence post, a steel post (which it bent into a C-shape), and a steel pipe that it knocked over, along with breaking four strands of barbed wire. The two top strands of wire were unbroken, the car slipped underneath them. The airbags never deployed, and there was no mechanical or structural damage at all.

So. . . Now I'm looking at replacing the rear bumper, both rear fender flares, the passenger door sill, possibly the passenger door panel, plus several tail lights and marker lights. . . and the rooftop antenna which was never found. Almost every part of the body has nicks and scratches. It's going to be a hefty repair bill.

On the other hand -- I reckon it could have been a lot worse.

Yeah, sorry to hear, but glad you're ok and glad it's something you could fix.

This could have easily been the 'incident' that lead to you buying an Exige S...

You could also profit off your loss by taking a pic of it and submitting it to wreckedexotics.com... sorry, just looking for positives in the situation.

Sorry to hear about the incident. You walked away, that's all that matters.

Sorry to hear about your "off-road" experience Up here, on the mountains roads, I'll round a corner only to find a football-sized rock that has fallen off the hillside, just sitting there in the middle of my lane. There's a surprise around every corner...sometimes not a good one. Glad you're OK and the Esprit can be fixed-they are beautiful cars.
