A&Q about Lotus
Q:
I posted earlier that my wife and I rented an elise for this weekend.
we drove from san diego to santa barbara for the weekend.
we rented from enterprise in la jolla. our rate was $150 per day, with a mileage of 250 per day maximum. but they made it sound like this was a made up number and you could type in whatever you wanted.
they gave a cursory glance over the car, told me to have fun and left. no explanation on how to start the car, things to look out for or even how to take the soft top off an on.
one, i peeked under the front and said "whats this?" to the hole in the front clam. (pic enclosed). so they noted it.
car had 1900 miles on it when we took it. it was a "touring" model. and the acapulco hu is not very intuitive.
so, looks like the cars are getting really well "used" and they are clueless, ne the hole in the clam.
i had a great time driving it. loved it. wife liked it but her butt got sore. my face is a little sunburned.
saw lots of p-cars, ferraris and such but not a single other lotus. lots of people do point, stare, wave, honk and ask you tons of questions.
i enjoyed it very much. car slides well. and all the other things you gusy already know.

"So, looks like the cars are getting really well "used" and they are clueless, re: the hole in the clam."
As predicted, the '06 Lotus Elise "rental cars" are being slowly destroyed. That's one way to get rid of the '06's.
When you buy your own, you can take care of it properly and avoid "holes in the clams."
Glad you liked driving it!

Is that Santa Barbara?

I bet the rental firm does not even realize how much that little hole would cost to fix. All it take is one idiot and a speedbump!

I live in Santa Barbara and that tent just sold for $1,500,000. carl

And, from experience, that hole will become a bigger problem the more air finds it's way inside, slowly weakening the clam until...

i thank lurking on etalk for the past year for makign the rental a good experaince for me.
yeah, my wife and i were talking about that hole in the clam. goodness. i think it was caused by the employees there. they were all kinda bragging about how they "drove it really good". ugh...
the best thing is i do have her, my wife, convinced that this will be a good choice for us vrs a 997. i even offered up to get rid of the supermoto. haha, but i wont have to. looks like this time next year we will be buying. (and paying cash!)
thank you etalk for everything, this is awesome!!

we were up at el capitan canyon, "camping". hahaha, truely SB style..

I got lucky with the one I rented on from enterprise on sunset blvd. 2 weeks ago. The car only had 600 miles on it and was in perfect condition. The people at that enterprise were also great, they showed me how to start it, how to remove and put on the soft top, they had to get a new battery for the fob because you had to be on top of the car to get it to work, so one of the employees walked down the street to radio shack to get a new battery for it. I went over the miles about 25 miles but they didnt charge me for it.
I loved the car and my face also got a little sunburnt and my wife loved the car also. An elise is definatly in my near future.

it was a joke

I thought that was El Capitan Canyon. I've had my Elise up there for "camping" as well. Good times.

RyanB, I think you rented from Frank. He is a great guy as is the rest of that branch. I assure you, none of the rentals in the L.A. area will allow a car with damage like the hole in the bumper to go unnoticed. Glad you had a good experience!

Actually I think it was Alex, but I could be wrong. Everyone there was very helpful, and great to deal with.

Really?
A:
i personally spend 10-20 minutes with each customer. I inspect the car down the the underside of the clam with each and every customer. I would hate to send someone out on the road with no knowledge of how this car performs. i actually think my customers appreciate it, and who better than to esplain things than someone who drives one everyday.

Glad to hear that you and your wife enjoyed the car... and that you won't be giving up the motorcycle!
