A&Q about Lotus
Q:
Over the weekend I test drove an Elise from a car collector who had like 7 Ferraris, 4 Porsches, 1 pagani, 2 Lotus and several other cars ... one thing they all had in common was the radar detector.
beltronics rx65
Does anyone here own one or have experience with one or thoughts on this one? I know you are all in love with the Valentine, but with the number and quaility of cars this guy owns I'm thinking he might know SOMETHING!
A:
I may be wrong, but one thing that the valentine 1 lacks is an easy stealth kit. I think beltronics and a few others offer kits and installations for stealth detectors, which is why some drivers opt for that. For me, v1 all the way!
and wait, does he have a zonda? :O what kind of ferraris? crazy!
A:
He had an Enzo ... you should of seen the set up I saw! It blew my mind ... climate controlled garage and an entire property in Malibu that only contained the garage and the cars! He lived up the street! I felt like I was in a car lover's dream ... here's a taste ... this went all the way around the garage, all 4 walls.
A:
valentine one > everything else
A:
geez.. wonder if he posts on here..
whats the 2nd silver car on the right? zonda?
A:
That "garage", if you can call it that, reminds me of Cameron's dad's setup in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
A:
It is an Escort 8500 in drag, I believe.

This is correct. The "smart cord" and hardwire kit are interchangable between the two.
A:
is the Zonda street legal in the US?
A:
I am not a huge fan of V1 I went with the k40 system alitle more $$ but well worth it
Check it out here:

i'm in the minority that doesn't believe this. i have the rx65 and find that, in my experience, it falses a lot less than the 8500 as well.
it's been true in my use. it's caught all speed traps, both those that i knew about, and even a few that i didn't even know were there in the past couple of months that i've been using it.

Thanks for the input, that's also what the guy said, a lot less false readings...

Crow331, did you take the picture and if you did, what's the small emblem on the lower right hand corner? Just curious
Abe
A:
The V1 does have a lot of false alarms. I only use mine on trips. The cordless Solo S2 is better for the Elise around town if false alarms bother you as much as they bother me. The 8500 is probably similar only better performance with the cord.

Abe, no I didn't take the photo ... I hijacked it from his ebay auction ... here is the auction
The little camera emblem in the corner is from ebay ... it's their picture hosting I.D.

Any brick and mortar joints have the RX65 besides Radio Shack? $329 over there. Any better deals that I can pick up by Saturday?? Thanks!
A:
I justed looked at your buddies other auctions - he say he needs the money because he is leaving for college- sound weird as he is also selling his ferrari
A:
His dad actually owns the cars .... his son is running the auctions. Maybe he's selling the cars out from under his dad's nose to finance his drinking during college Nah ... he actually had to call his dad to see if it was "ok" if I test drove the elise ... ha!
A:
Does he need another 'son'?

" the Radar Roy's Radar Detector Rumble tests show, the new Beltronics RX65 performed as well as the Escort 8500 X50 and both have been awarded Radar Roy's Five Badge Rating!
Could it be that both are virtually the same detector, as Escort had bought out Beltronics two years ago and now both companies are under the same ownership? We think so!
The testing also showed that the Bel RX65 and the Escort 8500 X50 performed as well, and in some cases better then the more expensive Valentine 1 radar detector. "
