BWR Key FOB can't get it cut

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
So I ordered a BWR all in one Key fob a while back, but I can't find anywhere to cut my key. Everywhere I take it, they say that can't do it. Hardware stores, key cutting places.

Would it be possible for me to send my blank BWR key along with my extra key, to someone who has had success with getting theirs cut, so they can get mine cut?

Let me know if you'd like to volunteer.

I had similar issue but a good old fashioned locksmith took care of it. I had cut in one place and they didn't take enough off the blank, i.e. they left too wide a key. Took it to another place that ground off a little bit more. Works beautifully. Try a locksmith shop, one with a grinder not the ones that use cassetts to cut. If you have no luck, PM me and I'll be glad to take care of it for you.

I hear the same thing from the local hardware store. He didn't want to do it becuase he had only a 60% chance of getting it right. I hold him to go for it. Work fine. So much better than stock.

I had a similar problem. You need to go to a quality locksmith, not just the local hardware store.

Thanks a lot, I'll look into it, and get back to you if i need your help.

I had a spare cut (not the BWR) at home depot with no trouble.

I took one of my keys out of the housing and used it.

BTW, after you install the circuitry the place to touch is toward the apex of the triangle next to the dividing line that separates the two buttons. Note the location of the trigger before you put it in the housing.

I went to some of the large chain stores (Home Depot, etc) with the new idiot-proof key cutters.......but they did not have the insert for the machine for this key. Drove to the local Ace Hardware with the old school key cutter and he cut two for me for free in a few minutes....

I had one cut at Madden's Lock & Safe in Escondido CA for practically nothing. Nice guy. Before I found him, three other places told me they couldn't cut it because it was a steel blank. 760-746-6248

Went to several big stores with no luck. Went to actual locksmith took care of it in about 2 min for 1 dollar. Note: The guy did say that the shank was different on the bwr key vs the stocker and that he could not be sure that the new key would come out properly. The key turned out great and I like it a much better than stock. I think its lighter also.

if you snap the original out of its plastic housing it is the same and will fit into the BWR setup. original is so next to worthless that it is very satisfying doing so...

The newer keys are different.
A:
Well I did just that, I ripped the key out of my extra key/light and put it in my BWR, and it worked great.

I personalized mine a bit and made a hole for the feedback light. See attached pics.
