what is standing start?

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
Is it something that will damage the car? I am a newb, sorry for the question if it's being repeat over and over and over again. Some people are agitated to it.
A:
it's a launch...

but usually when it's mentioned here its a high rpm launch...

but the real definition of a standing start... i have yet to know... which is why i haven't done it yet... don't wanna void anything else if i haven't already... it'll just give lotus more ammo

p.s. get ready for the members telling you to do a quick search or... you

A:
According to LUSA, it's the car moving forward from a stop while the RPMs are still higher than 3000.
A:
Anyone ever done a REAL standing start, say from 7500 RPMs? I heard they're a blast.
A:
I've done approximately 6500 rpm clutch drop--car seems to move out pretty well when you do that! I'll eventually do a 7500 drop. Not much difference, really. As long as the tires spin, I really don't think I'm damaging much of anything, except possibly my warranty!
A:
Hypothetically speaking, I've heard of a lot of wheel hop between 5K and 6K. You're better off just over 7K. Hypothetically speaking.
A:
Will they really kill your warranty over popping the clutch at high RPM here and there??
A:
Depends of what breaks. If your clutch dies, yes, they will void the repair. A tranny? Maybe. Window motor quits? Nope, still covered.
