A&Q about Lotus

SEARCH FRIENDLY WORDS: Fuel Economy, Gas Mileage, MPG
Hello! I've been keeping up with logging my miles on the Lotus Elise. I thought I'd share it with you guys. You guys can post yours as well, tell us if it's 2005 or 2006, track, street, spirited driving, what octane?
What I'd like to know is if there really is a general difference between 2005 and 2006 mileage.
MINE:
2006 Lotus Elise, Built November 2005
BREAK-IN PERIOD
Mostly babying my car, and pushing it once in awhile up to 5900RPM. I was able to hit the 30MPG mark once!
27.44 MPG
30.02 MPG
28.43 MPG
28.11 MPG
AFTER BREAK-IN PERIOD
Mostly combined street/freeway driving.
24.43 MPG (Had to have some fun right after the 1K service)
23.67 MPG (Check Engine Light. Never put in ARCO Gas)
28.53 MPG
26.99 MPG
26.10 MPG
20.98 MPG (Santa Barbara Meet. Lots of spirited driving)
29.94 MPG
A:
I don't have detailed info like you but I average about 20-21 for city/spirited driving. On trips it seems to jump up to about 28-30.
A:
My mileage is much lower as I tend to take lots of short trips. I am averaging between 18-20mpg. On the occasions I get to drive enough to let the car warm up I will drive in a spirited fashion! Also, I am ALWAYS blasting the AC...
A:
2006:
I get 27-30 on highway cruising very light. I get perhaps 6-8 while on heavy boost when the SC is whining. Jeckyl and Hyde.
A:
2005:
I average about 25-26, generally shorter trips with spirited driving when it's ready and there's open road. I do usually have one longer trip per tankfull, thus the slightly higher mileage.
A:
2005 getting 29 or so mpg with normal driving on a mix of highway and back roads. fuel is 93 octane.
A:
2006 with touring, base tires/suspension.
Daily driver, roughly 40 miles round trip.

Driving the car like I stole it as if the 2nd cam is the only one
20-22 mpg
Track Day (only been there once)
15-16 mpg (and the better portion of my tires)
Those that claim 30 mpg and higher I have no idea how you do it. Perhaps it’s higher-octane fuel or altitude/temperature/humidity differences
15,500 miles on the car so far ... the break-in period was harsh on fuel and I averaged around 24mpg no matter what I did or how I drove it.
A:
30 almost all the time..... I've gotten 33 already......... between 13-17 on track days. 93 octane all the time.
A:
2005 model, built in 9/05. Base suspension (AD07 tires) originally, now on
Rota Slipstreams with Goodyear GS D3's (205/16 fr, 245/17 r). Also, K&N air filter plus Larini exhaust. Gas is always 92 - 93 octane, and driving style varies (usually 75 - 80 on I-states, mildly spirited locally, only one track day).
Currently, 10k+ miles. Hardtop always in place (aero plus?).And the mileage is:
-Brand new, driven from Atlanta to Del at 2500 - 5000 rpm (varied a lot to
help break-in): 32.6 mpg except for first fill-up (30 mpg for initial 272 mi)
-Local driving (not much "stuck in traffic"): 24 -27 mpg consistently
-I-state trips (@ 70-80 mph): 32 - 33.5 mpg
-Track (v.spirited): about 12 mpg or so
I would suppose that it could get 35 mpg on the road if I slowed down a little, but that wouldn't be much fun.

A:
early 2005 LSS
91 octane
Average 20-22mpg.
Driven hard daily.
Best I've measured was 24.2mpg or so.
I've never bothered to calculate on a track day.
A:
2006 Elise, 91 Octane.
24ish, 50/50 highway/city.
A:
I just got 27.2 on a trip. 05 LSS hard top ac on 75-85mph.
A:
26-29mpg to and from the track.
A:
Highest MPG: 29.0
Worst MPG: 12.5
Average MPG over 3600 miles: 23.3
Track mileage has been a very consistent 12.5.

More detail is available (date, location, actual miles and gallons). Someday I might turn it into a pretty annotated graph. A lot of the unexplainably poor numbers were probably due to a (seasonal?) change in gasoline formula.
Maximum overall: 33.1
Minimum overall: 15.1
Minimum street: 19.3

I'm driving my car back to Seattle from Memphis so I'll see what my intersate mileage is like. I'd imagine however that the car get's its best gas mileage at 60-70 mph. Over that the mileage will go down just like most cars? Hmmm, I rode in a Jeep Grand Cherokee once going 90 mph on I-90 between Seattle and Montana. The car said we were getting 8 miles/gallon. I think the Elise will do A LOT better than that!
A:
Averaged 15.7Mpg over the Britcar 24H last year (some 2,000 miles)
A:
it seems like it is somewhere between
34 mpg on the freeway below 80mph
autocrossing seems like around 6 to 8 mpg
Around town between 19 and 22mpg.
This is unscientific. I do tank up at the same pump at the same station. Autocross was about 18 miles (had a co driver) both times.
Freeway was from San Luis Obispo to San Jose (hiway 1 of course).
have fun
Nick
