how much should I expect to pay for Pre Purchase Inspection?

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
at Lotus dealership for an 05 Elise...

Anyone ever done it before? Worth it? Should I do it? What does the dealer inspect? How long is the inspection?

I notice that people say to check the chassis. should i do it at dealer or body shop?

Thanks.
A:
I don't know. But I suspect it would be similar to the 1000 mile dealer service that is standard for all Elises.

The 1000 mile inspection includes an oil change and runs $200-300. Use the search feature here to find more.

It also includes a ECU dump which will tell you about peak RPM from which you may infer something about how the car was used. And from which the dealer can tell you whether the warranty is still valid.

I think that is what I would order if it were me. Of course, you could pay them less to have the mechanic just look over the car. A reputable dealer might do it at no charge to gain your business later on. Good luck.

I tried to use the search with key word "inspection", but came up with nothing. How long does it take to do the "1000 mile" dealer service?

Reading few people's input on buying an Elise (mention in this post, , it's necessary for me to have it inspected.
A:
usually a prepurchase inspection is one hour. At least it is at the dealership, VOLVO, that I work for.

I highly recommend you doing this to. It can catch any possible issues and if the car is reported clean and there is a problem, you have a dealership to go back on. No one wants that and it is in their best interest to tell you everything to protect themselves.

good luck with the purchase.

Thanks for your recommendation. Yes, I am planning to get all of the inspection report in writing from the dealer, so I have something to fall on in case something happens after the purchase IF there is a problem in the car that exists prior to my purchase that the dealer doesn't catch in their pre-purchase-inspection report.

I am just curious about inspection that the dealer is going to do, so I want to make sure that I am 100% covered (no missing inspection, so no excuses from dealer in case something happens) and the cost.

Thanks.
A:
I think you're asking all the right questions. Take it to the Lotus dealer and have it inspected. If you have more than one dealer or Lotus expert within driving distance, then select the one that is cheapest to do the inspection.

With this car, it is better to walk away, out $100, than to buy it and have to spend ten times that later on.
