will 06 exige price tank worse than elise?

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
knowing that exige is coming in 07 with the supercharger, lotus discontinued their base exige. the question is whether the exige value will drop or not.

as for me, this is how i see it

point for holding its value
1. only one year model, limited quantity when in comparison with 05 elise (we all know why elise price are dropping like waterfall.)

point for slipping its value worse than elise
1. for a few thousand more, buyers can get brand new 07 exige S which as the exige aero + more hp and torque
2. if buyers are happy with elise hp, why would they want to buy exige? they can get elise with few thousand off elise for model 07 and it's brand new while base exige is used (06 model)

what do you think?

Exige value will be nothing like the Elise, they only made about 300.
Exige S will be out of the price range of many and when/if the S/C kit becomes available, people will opt to go that route instead, especially when you consider the limited numbers of Exige S that will hit the U.S.
A:
I think value will fall at least as much as the elise. Would you buy a hardtop C5 corvette (that preceded the Z06) if you could get the Z06 for a few thousand more?

the question is - who will be the first one to buy the "S" stickers to put on their exige?
A:
Speaking of purchasing the S lets also consider what PRICES the dealers will sell the small quantites that are available, you can bet it wont be near mrsp.
A:
Will grammar tanked?

yes

no
A:
It'll tank, but not as bad since there's a limited number of NA cars.
A:
Reasons why n/a Exige values may not "tank":

1) Some people may not like forced induction.
2) Some people may want to do a turbo install on an Exige.
3) Some prefer the Exige (vs. Elise) and will buy to their price point.
4) Supercharged Exige S turns out to be full of problems.

Not to be a d!@# or anything, is this an english 101 forum? or a car forum?

just curious...

If you are that smart, can you please repost my entire post with the right grammar? I would like to see my mistakes, so maybe I can learn from you on how to write a proper 'english forum' language and improve my next post.

thanks.

Which price are we talking about new or used?

I don't think they are too many Exiges on dealer's lots -maybe one or two which isn't a problem.

As for the used market, I think it depends on how many current Exige owners get twitchy and nervous to get out of it.

With only 250 - 300 Exige S coming in 2007, I don't think the 2006 Exige will have a problem. In the long term (3 to 4 years), yes, they'll suffer in value like a 2001 Z06.
A:
Sorry I don't follow american made cars, but what happened to 01 Z06?
A:
2001 was the first year of Z06 which made a whopping 385hp. It was the darling car of the year until the 2002 model came in with 405hp. In late 2001, I almost got a 2001 Z06 with $10K off MSRP.
A:
I just think that the S will not be selling like "hot cakes". Although I'd like to have one, I'm keeping my base Exige. I think the extra power is going to add up to more Ss getting crashed, as a percentage, than base models. JMO.

Heck, my dealer is still sitting on an Exige or two. Come by and buy one. Ferrari of Denver is great to work with. Top Notch.
A:
So are 2nd hand Elise prices dropping quickly in the US? If so how come? I thought the limited numbers would help give it more appeal hence keeping values quite high?

cheers

Apparently, they weren't limited enough.

I think too many 2005s were produced as the initial supply could not keep up with demand. One reason was people put deposits at multiple dealerships gave a false sense of demand in early 2004/2005 - and of course Lotus was excite to fill those orders. After years of being hungry, how could Lotus not be excited to put more cars out?

And on the buyer side of the coin, the Elise was just a play toy to some who shortly got bored with it and too uncompromising to other's who need more practical functionality.

If the S does not sell like hot cakes by late 2007, I'd be very happy to trade/sell my '05 Elise for one. As it is, $60K+ is just more than I'm willing to pay right now.
A:
Less Exiges made than Elises. Not going to tank, IMO. We're talking less than 400 cars total right?

just to confirm, 05 elise are produced somewhere around 2500 cars in the USA market alone, true?
A:
I think it was around 2,500. Maybe 3,000 max. I'm not sure how many 2006s were produced though.

I doubt very many Exige owners would do that, but you never know. I know there is at least one guy on E-Talk who has 18/19" chrome wheels, he might do it.

I think more people with the real "S" model will take it off because of the ugly font that Lotus used.
