A&Q about Lotus
Q:
Fastest / most power to me indicates a query of top speed.
A:
Me, me, me. And just because I said so

Just bear in mind that 1/4 mile and 0-60 times are not what the Elise is built for. In a straight line the car is okay but nothing spectacular. The numbers reported in magazines and brochures may look good, but to get them you have to abuse the car terribly. You also risk the warranty -- the car reports certain driving behaviors to Lotus at service, and drag-style launches are something they really don't like to see. Granted the warranty is not much of a concern if you're doing engine modifications.
If you were interested in whose car can do the fastest lap on a road course or autocross track, the answer can be very different from the drag strip. Tight corners are where the Elise really does its thing.
A:
175 MPH on the interstate (not real smart ) in my former 1997 Esprit V8 and that's all she had.
Feff
A:
Not a road car, but if someone would just sell me the VIN plate from their wrecked Elise...

Ignoring bhp for a moment, my Esthi has been timed at 205mph. At that point software restriction cuts in because of the tyre limitations.

My screen name says it all

Chuck Norris has the fastest Lotus. It is so fast it's at the finish line before he starts. When he accelerates it actually changes the rotation of the earth.
He has accelerated to infinity..twice.

Ouch Ken, how are the aerodynamics at that speed?
Thats a hell of a speed for an elise!
I take it you have not gone for better tyres for practical reasons?
Zephod.
A:
Red cars are fastest!

The car is firmly planted at high speed due to the considerable downforce created by the low front-splitter, sideskirt and rear spoiler combination. The car spent some time at Porsche's windtunnel to improve its highspeed characteristics.
I haven't explored the use of improved highspeed tyres, because it simply isn't worthwhile. Extreme topspeed was not the design target for this variant.

I'm always curious why people want to ask "whats the top speed"? I get that all the time. I don't get it. I've had lots of very very high horsepower cars and I've never had the desire to max out the speedo. I've gone fast... but not "top speed". Is burying the tach needle something most people do?

My experience is that people that ask me about the top speed of my car or how fast I have driven it don't know very much about cars. My new thing is to lie to them and say the Elise goes 200mph. Everyone believes it.
A:
I just tell people it'll do 170mph*.
I've personally had it up to 135 (on the GPS) in 5th. Scary enough for me.
*which is what a stock car would do if running downhill in 6th gear at redline.

I see i see. I guess I dont really know what im trying to discover, just who likes to go fast i guess. Which is everyone on this board.
A:
nope, not me, I like to cruise and go slow. you were wrong.
