It happened today...AC stopped working...or was very low

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
I wonder when they're going to recall this, or give dealers the run down on how to fix this? I'm 99.9% sure my car is affected by this. I'm 4 hours from the closest dealer, 7 hours from MY dealer...so its a big deal for me to just drop into the dealer each time there's something new to fix. I need to plan ahead and get several things done at once.

It may be a few weeks. I got the impression from what Dave said that they have Bergstrom working on the fix. That will require Bergstrom to do some testing & find the best position for the sensor.

Mine is definitely affected. Thank goodness I'm only 35min from my dealer. I'm also still waitng to hear on my starshield.

Did anything ever come of this as my english 04 exige is doing the same thing?

Gav There is a fix that involves repositioning the temp sensor probe. I still haven't had this done myself. A couple of weeks ago I had my car in the shop and forgot to mention it to the service manager until later in the day and it was too late to do (apparently it's quite a bit of labor to get to the probe).

However, I figured out that on mine, if you don't crank the AC to its coolest setting (set it a couple of clicks clockwise form full cool), it'll cylce on and off and won't freeze up. I also always use the recirculation button on the theory that lower moisture content in the cabin will lessen the likelihood of the evaporator freezing up.

Thanks Alan, do you know if this gets done under warranty?

Just found it in the sticky tech section, cheers you would have thought the bl**dy garage would already know about it!

My Elise did the "AC thing" only once, when I was driving it home for the first time. I see now that it's not just MY car!

BTW, it was hot outside and I was in traffic.
