carbon fiber front clam

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
anyone know any venders that sell carbon fiber front clams? I would want a stock looking one...OEM look. just a direct fit front clam but instead of fiber glass, carbon fiber.

thanks...
A:
Talk with Shinoo @ Sector111.

I have a carbon fiber front (and rear) clam that he sourced for me.

I believe Sector111.com (link is to the Benetec rear clam) was working on something. Give Neil or Shinoo a call.

EDIT: Beat me to it, Cade.

Awsome--will do. Is is OEM-like? No strange lips or anything different from the factory clam? Also...fitment? went right on no probs?
A:
Shinoo and Neil come back from lunch in half hour...going to ask if they can indeed get a carbon fiber front clam, but NOT the Benetec one...i want an OEM look.

There are actually two types available, depending on your $$ and purpose.

I needed a replacement clam, wanted something strong, and didn't have lots of $$. So I went the cheaper route. It's a wet lay, and it is very strong, but it was designed for an S2 rather than the 111R, and there were a couple issues in fitment, which were able to be resolved by by body guys (who are skilled) It's not as high of a quality as the Benetec stuff, so it's not quite as pretty, either.

For more money ($$$$) Benetec makes beautiful carbon fiber bodywork that is also much lighter than stock. It's also approximately the same strength as stock.

I'm not sure what availability is on either, but Shinoo is the guy who can make it happen if anyone can.

What was the weight savings over stock?

Too often... I see a lot of people touching it to see if it's real, too. But you can also see the weave through the paint if you look at the right angle.

As it's wet lay, it's actually slightly heavier than stock. I wanted something strong enough that I wasn't going to crack it again. I've since taken out a cone at 100mph or so, and no problems. (It was at the track out point of a corner)

A:
yeah I have seen it in real life. It is nifty.

And to calm your fears, it looks as oem as oem can be.
