A&Q about Lotus
Q:
I have an '05 LB Elise with Starshield just received this week. How do you properly wash and care for the starshield? Do I wash and wax it just like the rest of the car, or is there anything different I need to do? Any do's or don'ts from past experiences would be most appreciated. Thanks!

No problem washing the starshield. Wax is ok but go easy on the swirling technique.
I use Rejex in some places that get really dirty (in front of the rear wheel opening) and wax elsewhere.

First, congrats on the new car. I hope you enjoy it!
I treat my Starshield just like the rest of the car. Wash and wax it normally. I even used a clay bar on it once to remove some very grimy stuff. Worked great!
As most will attest to, area in front of rear wheels seems to get the most abuse and needs the most care.

Anybody have a trick for getting the black rubber marks off of starshield that you pick up from the track? Wax gets off some of them, but not all of them.
Thanks in advance!

Once applied, refrain from washing the vehicle in an automated car wash for 24 hours. Washing after that time presents no problem, and no special care need to be taken for the film.
When waxing the vehicle, some wax may build up along the film edges. This can easily be removed when dry with a soft brush such as an old toothbrush. Do not use any waxes containing dyes or waxes that are not recommended for urethanes. Abrasive polishes and/or rubbing compounds are not to be used.

Starshield recommends that clay should not be used on their product. I mentioned this to a detailer who told me that the finest clay is okay.

I was reluctant to use a clay bar on the Starshield, but I tried every other possible method of removing the grit and got nowhere.
I was willing to have new Starshield put on (only the front, top portions of the SS were really bad), so I figured I'd try the clay bar as a last resort. If I ruined it, I'd just pay for new stuff.
Was very gentle, using lots of lubricant (Meguiars product) and not a lot of pressure.
Turned out great and that was almost a year ago. Now I just wash and wax it like the rest of the car.
