A&Q about Lotus
Q:
...at least in my car. My hardtop at the rear center does not sit flush into the rear and pops out about 3mm. When inside the car I can actually reach and pull the top down a tad with the edge of the hardtop. The whistling sound that appears at high(er) speeds is that edge catching turbulence and vanishes when I pull it down from the inside. We've noticed the Sport has some kind of latch, is that what it is for? To prevent this kind of non-fitting to happen?
A:
I have noticed the same thing. has anyone tryed to adjust the rear clamps for a tighter fit ? And did it help?
A:
I stuck some extra velcro on my rear clamps and this has helped. The SPORT elise has an extra clamp on the middle section to solve this very issue. I can't get any sport Elise owners here to take pics for me to see if it can be retroffited to existing hardtops....

K gonna have Qais order me some parts then if they are available...it gets really loud!

The wing on my Exige whistles a bit but I don't hear it past 761mph.
A:
Don't you hear it when driving on roads below sea level?

You sure it's not the S/C whistling?

I hear a whistling noise when I'm just cruising through a parking lot. For a long time I couldn't identify it. Then I realized it's just all the girls on the sidewalk watching me cruise by.

Thanks Kaz...I'll have to look into it. I also noticed it at higher speeds and it did bug me at times, specially when I don't have my radio on.

This is exactly what my dealer did to reduce the squeeking and tighten up the top. Over time, the top seems to been getting looser, again. I've tightened up the back clamps as far as they will go. So, I'll just add a little more velcro "loop" to the clamps.

Pics of the center roof bracket from an Exige.
*edit*- Added pictures of the insert, roof itself and roof with bracket installed. Obviously roof was off the car when I took these pics. Except for the inserts which are metal, the roof doesn't look or feel modified in any other way. All fiberglass underneath the cloth. The inserts are only about 1/2" long and don't have bottoms. Distance from the from the top of the insert to the inside top of the roof is 1".
Assuming the hardtops are the same you should be able to buy a bracket, install the inserts and be ready to go. Just be real careful not to go to far through the inside of the roof because you might hit the top of the roof from underneath and leave yourself a dimple. At least in the Exige the scoop would hide that if it happened.

Ooooo! I want one!
A:
CHIU Thanks! Got a shot of the hardtop without it installed on it? I'm trying to figure out what type of inserts they used and how they modified the hardtop.
A:
I'll try to get better pictures tomorrow afternoon. From what I can see the inserts are definitely metal. Hard to tell what is underneath because everything is covered up, maybe if I take the roof off.
A:
I thought you were whistling because you were happy to be driving your Lotus. And why would you want that to stop?

More pics added to post #12.
