Good idea - just like the "****" lady (or something like) that from S. Korea who refused to pick up her dog's crap. Embarrassment is probably the best punishment in the circumstances.

Don't hack their website. Try to find out who he is and then start off by posting the pics with the story here (including his name) and maybe on a few other forums... then sit back and enjoy...

I gotta say I'm amazed at some of the stories in this thread. Either I've been very lucky, or I'd better mount a camera on my car to see what happens when I'm not around! I cannot fathom anyone getting into another person's car like that.
Some people's kids.

It sounds like there needs to be a thread or website for people's Elise's where pictures can be posted of the perps.
I know there's a website out there for women to post pictures of lude and rude people, those who are indecent or harassing them. The pictures are taken with camera phones and made to embarass the perp. A short writeup will do well to describe the situation too so people know who they are.
Think if someone's boss sees it, won't make the perps too happy as karma starts flowing.

FWIW - As a future elise owner, at first I was stunned to imagine anyone having the balls to do this - I can't imagine not overreacting and wanting to beat the crap out of the guy, or at least yell at him the second I saw him.
But the car in reality is probably viewed by the police/dispatcher/judges/juries as not much more than an attractive nuissance, like a neighborhood trampoline. I'd guess that because it's the Elise, you can't help sounding like some rich guy wanting to beat up on some poor slob who just wanted to feel special for a minute when you say someone's sitting in your Elise.
This isn't how I feel, just how I think it is perceived outside the Elise community and why I think 911 didn't want to bother.
A:
No:
"Hello 911 dispatcher? Yes, I'm calling to report some bozo sitting in my car. No I'm standing right beside him. Oh wait, he heard me calling you and he just ran off."
Yes:
"911? Send help now! I just came out of the store and I can see a really scary guy sitting in my car trying to break the steering column. I think I see a gun on the dashboard! I'm afraid to go approach him!"

My $.02...
Just because someone is a pea-brained mouth-breather that happens to be a bit overzealous in his adoration of your car is no justification for shooting or beating him into a pulp. It's just not worth it. Stun Guns, however, would be both effective and fun!
I HAD to valet my Elise in my company garage once and when I had to go back down to get something out of the car...there was the valet and his buddy sitting in the car. They didn't know quite what to do at that point, but they knew I was pissed. I had them move other cars so I could park somewhere without blocking other cars and took my keys. I made it very clear that this is something they could be fired for and left it at that.
But here's the real kicker...
When I see someone admiring the car (without touching it, of course) I ask them if they'd like to sit in it or check out the rest of the car. I consider myself an ambassador of inpiring cars. If more people were interested in great sportscars, maybe the Big three would get off their collective butts and start making cooler cars. You can really make someone's day by showing even the smallest amount of compassion.
That said, if I found someone who made themselves at home in my car without permission, all of that feel-good compassion goes out the door - along with the offender. But then again, I ALWAYS lock my car and put the top on if I am out of visual range. Never depend on the common sense of strangers.

Obsidian, reading both of those stories just left me fuming. People like that need to have the fecal matter smashed out of them with much vigor. You showed more retraint than I would have. I think you should post the pics of that loser who bolted.

You should show us the pix so that those of us on the west side of town can be on the lookout for him and put the top up when necessary.

Very well said, I agree completely.
Also, this is where I must insert my compulsory endorsement for a good car cover (seems like I do this about once a month or so, but I swear, I receive no compensation for this - although, I wouldn't turn it down... ). Seriously though, if you don't want your car to get unsolicited attention, put a cover on it. Don't have a cover ? Buy one, they're really great. It'll keep your car cleaner, longer, will keep it cooler in warm weather, and will hide it from prying eyes.

I beg to differ.. A car cover in public will just add to the curiosity factor.
"Hmmmm, that's a shape I've never seen before.. I wonder what's underneath that cover."
I've seen more than one car cover partially pulled off in the past as someone tried to satisfy their curiosity.

I've been using my cover since day one with the Elise (and over 5 years with my Miata) - never happens ! Anything can happen, anywhere, but IMO a car cover lessens the chances of tampering. In fact, the only time anyone's messed with my car (the Miata) was on one of the rare occasions when I'd decided to NOT use the cover.

Never happens, or never seen it happen?

if the guy was in MY car i would have made sure he was attacking me when he got out!!! well atleast that would have been my story!! my car my story!
people are just freakin idiots. plain and simple!
I LOVE THE FLORIDA LAW!!! and actually this happened to my father while he was in miami! he shot and KILLED 2 illegal hatians who were trying to steal his car outside of his hotel room. when he and the security guard approached them from behind bushes. they hit the guard with a bat and dad opened fire. one in the head and the other in the back as he decided this car theft deal wasn't for him! the state of FLORIDA sent him a concealed weapons permit 1 month later and the sheriff invited him back as often as he'd like to come!
absolute true story. i talked to the sheriff my self!
Wow...your dad is really cool for murdering two guys trying to steal a friggin car - a stupid machine. I would find other things to brag about, buddy boy. Sorry, but your gross, flippant machismo comment about this really boils my blood. Be part of the solution, my child, not the problem.
An eye for a life simply does not cut it IMHO. And... too many retards have guns, plain and simple. Your dad proves that.

If more people had guns fewer cretins would try to steal cars.

Pay more attention to what was said - when the security guard approached the thieves, they attacked the guard with a baseball bat - I suspect that their intent was less than honorable at that point.
Killing someone in self defense or in the defense of another in deadly peril is more than justified.

Your pre-disposed bias against guns is showing.
Finally, Keep the name calling to yourself. It is not allowed on this forum.

Sure, that's the solution.

Actually though, it's true. Areas that have stricter gun controls tend to have higher rates of violent crimes. Areas where guns are more accepted by the general population (i.e. lots of hunters) and have a larger number of people with concealed carry permits, tend to have much lower crime rates...
