A&Q about Lotus

Q:
I have a small finger surgury(nothing serious) scheduled for the end of the month, and figure to be sitting around the house for 2 days on pain pills, and watching movies.
I was going to get le mans, and grand prix.
anyone else have any good (racing action)titles they can recommend?
A:
I enjoy "The Gumball Rally". Sort of a race movie.

Just stay away from "Days Of Thunder", "Champs", and any of the "Cannonball Run" movies.
A:
Comedy Option:
Fast and the Furious

Any racing fans should keep their eyes open for this one, if it ever makes it to North America (Amazon, whatever).

I picked it up the other day and have played it and the bonus material through several times. It works on so many levels. First, it's a nice story of someone with a passion who pursued his dream and made it work. It's a great time-capsule piece about an F1 era when the "garagistes" could still compete; if fact, Siffert's "team" at the beginning was simply a self-financed effort with 4 guys driving around Europe, towing a racecar, and even beating Clark at a non-championship race. It presents insight into Siffert as a shrewd businessman who recognized the value of sponsorship, but still stayed true to his roots, and in fact perhaps prospered due to his connections to Swiss companies (e.g. TAG Heuer). Siffert was also a true racer, in the style of Moss, competing in up to 45 races a year (F1, Prototype, Touring Car). Finally, it's an interesting character study of a driver who liked to live his life at full-throttle, and the way that he caught everyone up in the passion. Even his sister remembers with both fondness, affection and some remorse the wild years with her brother "Seppi".

The bonus material includes nice footage of the Bern GP in the 50s (nutcases on motorbikes, sidecars and storming F1 cars), plus lots of super-8 film from Siffert's crew in the 60s. Groovy soundtrack as well.

The only downside for English-speakers would be that it is subtitled (original language French and Swiss-German).

Watched Fast and Furious 3 Last night. By far the best exhibition of driving skill I have ever seen in a movie. The drift school and car preparation extra content is interesting. Dialog is lame. Lots of very young women in very short skirts.

I watched Deathrace 2000 the other day for the first time. So entertaining! Pure 70s class.
