A&Q about Lotus
Q:
ok, sandsmuseum.com says 7800 and people here say 8500 is redline.
Which is right?
According to sandsmuseum, max. torque is experienced at 6800rpms.
I have an '06 Elise and it feels like it's fastest when I shift at 7500 rpm, it seems to be staying 'on the cam', if not then it soon comes back on. When I try shifting at 8500 just feels like it's being overworked and not much gain.

Redline vs. rev limiter me thinks.

Umm... my car is definitely faster at 8500 - feels like a solid power gain all the way to the top. Practice shifting I guess.

Peak HP is at 7800, redline is 8,000 with momentary use to 8,500.

What he said. To expound a bit: the Elise has a very advanced ECU that allows for a "transient redline". This means that the redline for continuous running is 8,000, but brief spurts of accelleration up to 8,500 are ok. Thus, the ECU will allow you to go past 8K when accellerating hard. And while the peak HP is at 7,800, it remains close to that level on up to 8,500. So the quickest accelleration is to ring it out right up to 8,500. That also puts the next gear in a better range for both torque and power than shifting at 7,800.

I hit the redline around 7800 rpm if only one wheel is spinning... see the autocross forum.
