A&Q about Lotus
Q:
Hello everyone. I'm finally back in the states after spending six months abroad and looking for an Elise. So far I've found one in northern california spec'd the way I'd like it but its currently on its second owner with around 7000 miles. That makes me slightly leery. I'll still be going to look at it but is there any reason I should be more concerned than if it only had one owner? Should this affect the car's value at all? So far I've been looking here and craigslist, any other sites worth checking out? I've checked virtually all the San Francisco and southern california dealerships and haven't found anything new and it seems like there is some serious value to be had from lightly used 05s.
Thanks,
Ben

It's a Toyota, so generally there should be no fear. That being said, it is a Lotus and most Lotus types are proud moms/dads and want to know the history of their baby for resale purposes. I'd find out where it's been serviced, call the manager and ask what's been done and what dumps have been done. You obviously don't want a Lotus that been run over 8500K constantly. Get the VIN and most service managers will take time to go over what's in the system. Before buying, I would request an inspection at a Dealer and an ECU dump to see what you are getting. If it hasn't been abused, then it should be ok.

Try Autotrader and Cars.com. I found mine on Cars.com. 6000 miles. I am the third owner. No problems so far other than the fact that the original owner neglected to give the second owner the softtop storage bag and the sun visors.

Last time I checked our local (Pittsburgh) dealer had some '05s still in stock.
Don't know what the deals are but the salesman is a nice guy (I bought my '06 from him). Might be worth a 'phone call.
