A&Q about Lotus
Q:
I'm considering an Elise or Exige and am curious how this deviced worked, if at all.
Thanks, Ron
Tire Inflator Aerosol (if fitted)
In order fully to exploit the benefits of light weight, and
to maximise stowage space, the Elise has no provision for
spare wheel carriage or lifting jack. A temporary puncture
repair facility is provided in the form of a tire inflator aerosol
which is mounted in spring clips at the extreme right hand
front corner of the rear luggage compartment. If possible
avoid driving on a deflated tire, or irreparable damage to
the tire may be caused.

It's a can of fix-a-flat. The same kind you can get a Pep Boys and Wal-Mart.
It is designed to inflate a flat tire and seal it enough for you to make it to a shop and get it fixed. It is effective on small punctures, such as a nail.
It is not going to work if you have sidewall damage or a large gash, but that kind of damage is rare.
I've been carrying a can around in my other cars for years. It has saved me a lot of jacking and tire changing.
NOTE: It is not ment to be a permanant fix, although I've used it to permanantly seal leaky rims.

I have a plug kit for my Ducati I carry. When I go places, I take it and a very small 12v compressor along too. Depending on where the hole is, I could plug it in a very short time.
I've never tried the flat fix, but I've seen it fail in some cases

If the bead breaks from the rim the can won't help you either.

I was "saved by the can" earlier this year. I was about 20 miles from home, and came out of a doctor's appointment to find my right rear tire almost totally flat due to a leaky valve stem. The can inflated the tire and slowed down the leak enough to get home, where I took off the wheel and brought it to a repair place in another car to have the stem replaced. +1 for the can.
