A&Q about Lotus
Q:
I find myself getting increasingly annoyed with the questions adults ask about my car. I'll never get tired of the kids! I took my kids to the races in a stroller! I remember being in awe of a guy who had a Pantera down the street when I was young. Never forget sitting in that!

I finally got around to washing the grasshoppers off from last weekend's track outing and who should happen to come down the street? The same lad.... and he remembered my name.
As a side note, those grasshoppers out at MSR think they're safe if they stay in the grass...
At any rate, he and Dad were on the way to a neighbor's place where an impromptu block party for the kids seemed to be ramping up. The three of us chatted for a moment and I mentioned to Dad that I'd be happy to take him around the block. (And yes, I rattled off a quick airbag disclaimer; Dad was unconcerned.)
As soon as I got the door cracked, he was climbing in over the sill. He reached right for the harness buckle, held it up, and asked, "What's that?" I explained the harness as I snapped him into place, even though he's really too small for the waist to even snug up.
I hopped in, clipped myself in, and went over the start-up, pointing out the start button as the engine came to life. He strained against the shoulder strap to see it and quietly said, "Cool."
The car was stone cold, so I creeped up the street and stopped at the end of the block. I asked if he could see and he pushed down on the seat and craned his neck a bit, "Yup." For good measure, I let him give the airhorn a long beep which brought a big smile to his face.
I gave him a heads up, "You ready? Hold on!," once the engine came up to temp. I gave it a little boot down a long straight, engine up to full chat, and then made a quick cut back through a side street - up the side street to near the elementary school and a quick flick around a corner where there's some nice new asphalt.
Since all the other kids were hanging out across the street, I made sure to come down the length of our block in first, with the engine wound out and making lots of noise.
As soon as we pull into the driveway I look over and see him, with no instruction, twist the camlock on the harness. We've obviously got a reincarneted racer on our hands here!
He agreed to sit tight while I ran in and grabbed the camera. Once back out to the car, I asked if he'd like to put the harness back on for the photo. He grabbed the factory belt and replied that he'd prefer it instead. I don't think he was too crazy about the harness and not being able to move around much.
Verdict? Looks like we've got another Lotus lover on our hands.

Hah, great sorry! I let kids sit in mine all the time (even those cute highschool girls ), but I've yet to give a ride to one. It's great to see well mannered kids who love cars...it puts a smile on my face.
