car cover question???

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
i need a cover while my car sits in the garage to protect it from my kids walking by and scratching it. the most important thing is that it is simple and fast to put on (i can get pretty lazy)... any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. thanks so much.

Hi Eitan,
I got a Dustop model for my Elise.

It is a thicker fabric that is great against casual bumps or rubbing. My kids and their friends are always in the garage walking by the car, so this is great peace of mind for me.

It takes all of 45 seconds to put on.

where'd you find a cover like that?
it's not a fitted cover, right?
thanks.

thanks.

I got the cover at Car Cover World. It was $135 delivered.

Here is the link:

It is a custom fit cover, with pockets for the side mirrors. It is not a skintight fit, and fits loosely but snugly over the car.

Here is a pic. Hope this helps.

If you are "finicky" about minor scratching (spider webbing) to your paint then before you by, you may want to try this:

you can try this little test I've been doing for years to see if car covers will scratch. I take a blank CD-R or an old music one I'm about to throw out, and gently rub it , and i mean gently on the underside of the car cover. Then turn the cd over. If you see "fine lines" then you know the cover will scratch the paint with the on/off pulling movement. If it cause thin porous lines on a cd, it will be doing the same thing over time with your clearcoat. I hope that helps.

California Car Cover - I have an Evolution in blue that protects against everything including dust, rain, sun, prying eyes, and creepy people...

Call them for a fitted cover.

Covercraft Dustop as well. Fits nicely. Relatively thick soft fabric.

Evolution from Sector111. It looks like the one from Car Cover World pictured above... about the same price, maybe a little more at Sector111.

Just to clarify - Evolution versus Dustop covers:

Evolution is an all-weather cover, can be used outdoors.
Evolution® (Technalon®)
Popular All-Weather Fabric
Dent Protecting 4-Layer Construction
Water & Dust Resistant
Strong Polypropylene Fibers
Insulates Vehicle Against Weather
Warranty: 4 Years

Dustop is an indoor cover, don't use outdoors.
Dustop
Soft & Almost Totally Dust-Proof
4-Layer Fabric Stops All but Fine Dust
Soft Inner Layer Protects Paint
4-Layers Also Help Prevent Dings
Finest Indoor Protective Cover
Fabric Color: Taupe
Warranty: 4 Years

IMHO, if eitan wants a garage only cover, the Dustop is probably the best bet.
