A&Q about Lotus
Q:
i notice today when i backed off the throttle and cruise in gear it would make some slight back firing noises all the way till i am stopped.... if i cruise to a stop in 2nd or 1st i can actually feel the car jerk very slightly
I also noted the rpm was around 1500 at idle vs the usuall 900ish....
any idea what this may be?
A:
Pretty normal for the car to backfire gently as you cruise to a stop.
Poppa-poppa-pop...
A:
yes i know, but today it was doing it the entire time from say 60mph to 5 mph, which it never did before 2000 miles ago or on my first exige and it's w/ the same type of exhaust.
A:
That's not technically a backfire, is it? It's just an exhaust burble. It's just a bit of unburned fuel getting out past the exhaust valve.
Isn't a backfire when you get burning fuel backwards past the intake valve and it ignites the charge in the intake runners?

A:
Going down a steep hill, back off the throttle on the Lotus...that popping...gentle backfire....or just the burble of the Stage II...
A:
Mine recently at 2000 miles got louder, bassier and is burbling as slowing (thank God I was getting worried !) Love that sound. , if it is doing it as you are cruising along at 45mph steadily then that would be odd behavior. Also I believe the Lotus PCM or computer for the engine is dynamic, it adjusts when conditions such as temperature or altitude or such change a lot? I have had days where my car kind of idled strange /roughly at lights, the next day all was fine
A:
I can initiate a neat small burble when rolling downhill in say 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear. As you're rolling with engine braking, with no accelerator pedal applied. gently (just barely and lightly and release) tap the throttle to induce burble. Works everytime for me. I want more POPs-N-BURBLE!
Cheers,
