Dear Lotus, Where is the Love?

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
Many thanks for all the support!!! I am optimistic that Lotus will find the car and get it to me. If it shows up before Thanksgiving, the love will be renewed. If not, it is probably time to move on.

And yes, zOOmz, I DO need a hug!!!

But no customer orders were built in the first batch of cars. The launch cars were built first and then customer cars were built.

When I ordered my 2005 elise, I ordered it in Artic Silver with red leather. I waited for about 14 months and the car finally showed up in Artic silver with blue leather after sitting at port for about 5 weeks. I had the option of keeping the blue leather and getting a free starshield, swapping the blue leather with red leather or ordering a new car. After waiting 14 months I decided to keep the blue leather and get free starshield. I am very happy with the blue leather but it is strange how many orders get screwed up from the dealer to the factory. They must still use commodore 64 computers or something.

Hang in there man, you're almost there. Trust me (I was one of the very early orders way back when and it took forever for me to finally get my car). But just as you're feeling like giving up, you'll get that call, so just hang in there. One day at a time.

And my car was on the same ship with yours. Arrived at the same port at the same time (obviously ) and I got mine 4 weeks after you did! (And we only live an hour drive from the port.) The port and transport process is a mysterious thing.

Yeah, I remember that. And, on top of that, Neil (The Stig) got his car right then as well (I think maybe a few days before me, IIRC). I'll bet our cars were all on the same ship !

At least you didn't have to drive 2800 miles for your car!

I can't imagine what that was like - you did it at an amazing clip, too ! What was that, like in 3 days or so right ?
A:
Pete,

Love the car, love the engineer's who designed it, love the worker's who put it together (if you get one that does not rattle, I did), and maybe even love your salesman and dealer, there are some good ones around, but as is the case with most companies, there's not much opportunity to love the directors, VP's of Operations, and marketing puke's that screw up a good relationship...

My take on this is to "MOVE ON". One Lotus in the family is enough! The car is good. But my goodness.....it's still just a car. If you decide to wait and keep the Exige S, sell the other Exige or Elise. Just my take on this.......

If you have particular interests and build that are unique, then paying full price after discounts are available isn't so bad becuase you're paying a little extra to get just what you want... and it makes the wait more worthwhile. That said i'd be pissed if i bought a car, waited forever and then it came out revised 2 months later. And yes the dealers ofteon don't know what's going on.

Same thing happened to the g-wagen market. Up till 2000 they were almost all brought in through europa for the tune of 115k to 130k. Though the purchasers of the last of the stock (who at least didn't have to wait) paid that price only to have the updated interior show up on the market from MBUSA for a "measely" 75k price tag... a 50k depreciation in 6 months, with a new price equal to the 3 year residual before. Course, many of the new buyers got a host of electronics nightmares... so the 2000MY buyers had something to be smug about. Mercedes dealers are the last informed on g-wagens by a LOOOOONG stretch of time.

Randys cross contry (or just half the contry, San Diego - Topeka) drives are legendary!!

I am pleased to say that Lotus has found my Exige S, and Lotus of South Bay will be doing the PDI tomorrow, and hopefully I can pick it up Sunday or Monday!!!

Thanks to Ryan at Lotus, who worked overtime to find the car and get it out, Todd at Lotus of Portland, and to Abe for agreeing to do the courtesy delivery and rush it out. All you guys are great, and I appreciate everyone for "keeping the love alive". Only dedicated professionals like these would take their jobs so seriously to make this happen. I love this community! THE LOVE IS BACK!!!
A:
Glad to hear you are getting your car.
Post 0-60 times soon?

Is it the blue one or the white one? Besides the launch car, they got two more there. The blue one was being PDI'ed when I was there today.

P.S., Never mind. Saw your posts on the other thread.
A:
Mine is the white one, and Brian ordered the blue one. Since he is a customer of South Bay, that is probably why they PDI'ed his first. I got the word that the trucking company dinged the paint next to the splitter on mine! Oh well, everything can't be perfect.
